Debby, that comment about taking the extra 10 minutes to do a good job just killed me! Sometimes I think I'm not patient enough to sew! I'm watching this video to get some tips for how to make make my zipper more straight and I think my next clematis will be a very good job indeed!

Love this bag. I do have one observation. When you get to the instructions stating to sew all 8 corners there is no specific seam amount. Based on instructions seam allowance is 3/8" unless specifically stated different. 3/8" seemed a little much so I viewed the video just to see how you did the 8 corners. You specifically showed using a 1/4". Maybe you could add this to your instructions. Great Pattern!
@DebbyHunker6 жыл бұрын
Hi Lori! Thank you for your comment. This isn’t my pattern, I only made a video tutorial for it, so I can’t change anything in the instructions.

Hi, these are two great videos. So many handy tips and hints. I’ve really enjoyed watching them and I’m going to try out this Clematis patter. I noticed that the Wonder Clips you use have very handy little grips on them. But I can’t find them anywhere online. My hands are quite arthritic and I think those clips would be much easier for me to use than the clips I have, which are very stiff and difficult for me to open. Could you give me the Brand name of your clips and maybe where you purchased them, please. Thank you so much.😊

Hello ! I am so glad I came across your channel! You have done an amazing job ! I have a question about top stitch. How would I manage to do a top stitch on leather, if I am stitching by hand . I have started sewing leather wristlets by hand and have to skive the edges to fold, and am finding it challenging how to top stitch zippers by hand. Or is there another method other than top stitching zippers using leather? It would be great, if possible, if you can make a video, if you can assist with the hand stitching method.

Hi Debby: Thanks for the awesome tutorial on this really cute bag. I'm confused about the length of the zipper. You said you start off with a 9" zipper then add the tabs which are 1/2" each. That would bring the zipper to 10"? In the instructions, they refer to purchasing an 8" zipper. Do you mean, starting with a 8" zipper then add the tabs to equal 9"? Also, what kind of vinyl do you use? I have a domestic machine and was hoping to try this bag out with vinyl. Hope to hear from you soon. Love your colors and fabrics.

I love how you did your Clematis but I have one major question. You do your darts like a quilter, which I do but when you got to the lining you did not nest your darts? May I ask why? Wouldn't it set better inside also instead of having a bulky part inside interior?
@DebbyHunker7 жыл бұрын
Hi Laura! Thanks for your comment/question. I usually nest my seams... It might have been simply that I had my seams both pressed to the same side and just went with it. It’s not as crucial in bag making, and especially (for me) iif it’s inside the bag. There isn’t a significant amount of bulk with the lining, but there is with vinyl.
@calliehernandez71384 жыл бұрын
I enjoy your videos and teaching style. Thank you for making your videos. I want to use vinyl for the strap but am stumped as to the technique for sewing the little hook to the long strap. Would I sew the vinyl together like the fabric strap was sewn? Your recommendation would be appreciated.

This is just AMAZING. I can not thank you enough for sharing your knowledge. You have demonstrated everything and explained it very thoroughly. Just WOW. I would like to ask you, do you think you could use the dart method on any curved bottom. I think it would surely make a more attractive bag. I could spend all day watching your videos. Thank you again for sharing. Where did you buy the item that you used to straighten the curves and the corners?
@DebbyHunker7 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad you're enjoying my videos! That little tool is a Point Turner and Creaser and is available at any sewing supply store. As far as your question about the darts, if you're sewing a fairly simple bag that is a little on the flat side, the darts would certainly add an attractive shape... Just make sure that your corner is more of a wide curve than a tight corner, if that makes sense... Use your Clematis pattern as a guide...
@denashortt94057 жыл бұрын

I love the idea of using zipper tabs! I was wondering if you made your seams at the end turn in more toward the zipper if it would make less of a gap or would that change the look of the zipper? if you understand what I'm trying to say! :)
@DebbyHunker7 жыл бұрын
Hi Peggy, I know exactly what you're saying. As an alternate, you could lengthen your zipper slightly, instead of altering your seams. The purpose of the way Celine designed the bag is to reduce the bulk at the end of the zipper. That little gap leaves a nice finished clean looking corner.
@Askthedog126 жыл бұрын
Fantastic video. Would you be able to do a shoulder strap and make the bag for a little girls handbag??
@DebbyHunker6 жыл бұрын
Yes, there is a hack for a different position for the d-rings, and if you make a cross body strap, it works perfectly.

@cathyeberhardt73567 жыл бұрын
I wish I'd seen this before trying my first tonight! Most went well until sewing it all together. I did not have holes on each side. When you made your pattern did you widen it slightly? I noticed a gap in the pieces. I think that would've helped mine. Great videos! Thanks!
@DebbyHunker7 жыл бұрын
The pattern is the same size as the original. The gap is just to make it easier to fold. If you don't have the holes, you've either used to wide of a seam allowance, or your zipper was possibly a little too long. Make sure to measure your test square as well as that has been an issue sometimes and people don't have it printed at 100%

Ok thanks! I'll double check again! 🤔

Thank you so much for this tutorial. It was very helpful. I had a few issues (my fault), I don't have the little holes at the ends of my bag (I think maybe my zip was to long? Its 9")and do you have an easy way of measuring for installjng your labels during construction? I think mine is a bit off 🤦🏽♀️.
@DebbyHunker3 жыл бұрын
I have learned that I need to shorten the zipper a bit so that I can alter it to make it a cross body. As for centering, I measure and mark the center, then use the washer that the prongs go through to mark where the holes need to be cut. Centering does get easier with practice.

Hi Debby, You didn't show the sewing part when you sewed the whole thing together, do you stop at the top of the lining and start again on the exterior? (At the top at the zipper) So to be clear, your start at the bottom of the lining, sew up the side of the lining, then on to the exterior and on around, but do you stop then start again? S (Stop at the end of the lining then start again on the exterior?
