In this video, I'll be covering the fashion of The Chanels from Scream Queens Season 1. The Chanels are the beautiful, wealthy, popular, and stylish clique of haughty girls belonging to the most demanding sorority Kappa Kappa Tau at Wallace University. The main three members of the posse are the queen- Chanel Oberlin, Sadie Swenson or Chanel #3, and Libby Putney aka Chanel #5. The cohesive and glamorous style of the Chanels is one that has grown to be iconic and visually captivating on-screen with a great impact off. I’ll be analyzing the overall quintessential fashion of the Chanels and breaking down each of the member’s distinctive styles in relation to their personal attributes.
We will be taking a look at styling techniques, the designer brands of choices, the coveted look, and the symbolism of ensembles within and outside of the Chanels’ group-think. I’ll also be covering the psychology and sociology of the girl posse of identical name and the phenomenon of the inexplicably identical individuals to see how the behaviors, belief systems, and the look of the overall group identity of the “Chanels” impacts each member. Through this, we will understand this style of personal fashion as an aesthetic and each of the members' styles on an individual level as well as how it functions in the world as a clique.

The Chanels look also reminded me a bit of other famous Mean Girl groups in cinema/media such as the Heathers or the Fab4 in Jawbreaker. Although unlike those girl groups that had more richer jewel toned color palettes, the Chanels color palette was more similar to the one used in Marie Antonette. Especially since both were based off the colors commonly used in Macrons.

Can we have an honourable mention? Hester’s style usually had some kind of flattering figure formed dress along with fluffy bracelets and a stiletto shoe. I know she’s a late edition and not commonly mentioned with the main three members but her style was also unique. Kind of thinking about how the bracelets lowkey foreshadowed handcuffs.

I worked at Henri Bendel during the airing of Scream Queens. Henri Bendel, & more so LBrands, sent lots of purses, jewellery, and accessories to the production. After it stared airing on a board in the back for Dress Code on “How to be the Bendel Girl” had lots of photos of the Chanels and my manager would reprimand us for not following the mandatory style. I would just say I am in nice clean professional black & white like the employee handbook and my contract I signed states I need to be dressed as for work. That boss loved to make up “new interpretations” of rules or even federal law. The funny part I do kind of dress like a Chanel in outfits with lots of texture and girly aspect but in colour. I hate wearing black bc of being a stage manager & I am too dirty for white. So I wasn’t going to buy new clothes for work.

Hold my pumpkin spice latte, I am planning on giving my wardrobe a makeover lmao. Chanel's style is basically preppy with very luxury looking pieces and accesories. For example, I already have the classic houndstood bottoms and the white blouse with the pussybow. Just add pearls or rhinestones jewelry, faux fur jacket, sheer ankle socks with pumps and voila.
