As a Filipino, this analysis is actually pretty interesting because in Filipino culture that's seen in our movies and TV shows, femininity isn't demonized in movies the way American cultures do it, instead, a sexist trope that comes to play in our culture is that the sexy, "slutty-dressed" character is shown as the mean girl while the traditional, feminine-but-conservatively dressed girl is shown as the "good girl." It's pretty interesting to see how the U.S. stereotypes any girly girl character as being mean while in the Philippines, the sexy-dressed girls are portrayed as bitchy.

Same here, in Indonesia! The evil women stereotype in sinetrons (soap operas) are usually depicted wearing feminine, revealing, and/or expensive clothing. It kind of screams slut-shaming and misogyny to me, blargh blargh blargh.

Wonderful Analysis! Can't wait to see Ariana as Galinda delivering us another Iconic Blonde Mean Girl. Feel it's gonna be a mixture of Regina George with some Cher Horowitz/Elle Woods. Very similar to Stella in Winx fate saga that goes from bad because of her status & having to keep the appearances to then become good

since when have men experienced the bimbo effect...? regardless of how they look, they are always taken seriously
@CleverAndChic Жыл бұрын
I didn’t delve into it as this is a KZbin video and I can only cover so much, but men will be treated differently because of their perceived traits too. It is less common the effect occurs for them and they don’t carry the same double edge sword that women do when it comes to the effect. My apologies if I articulated that a bit poorly, hopefully this makes sense!
@silvasilvasilva Жыл бұрын
Certainly not "regardless of how they look". Everyone judges everyone by appearances and we are all aware of it when we present ourselves.The difference is that the range of acceptable clothing and colours is a lot narrower for men, so there's less room to get it wrong. Still, no man who wants a traditional corporate job will show up for an interview in bermudas or in a pink and green suit, because they know they won't be taken seriously.
