EMD is one of the sweetest sounding engines, a design directly traceable back to the Winton engine from the 1930's

Not bad for an engine designed back in the 1930's. I like the simplicity of the design and how each power unit can be individually replaced. Cylinder and head.

Only a few hours ago I went out near Elders Loop to film (in the pouring rain) the grain coming though on its way to west vic which had CLF3, CLP9 and BRM001 on it. CLF3 sounded really nice when it passed though!

CLF3 has a good sounding 645E3C when it was rebuilt as a CLF. It looks excellent wearing SSR AN Passenger paint job. However I kinda miss the "Space Ghost" name for CLF3 but hey Jason Ferguson doesn't sound too bad.

What is no to like about EMD and Jimmy 2 stroke diesel engines. The V16 645 s9und fantastic, but also the 8V92 truck engines sound brilliant. The other two stroke diesel I love is the Napier Deltic engines in the Class 55s.

Wikipedia confirms my different memory of earlier build dates : The first locomotive was completed in January 1970, with two further orders resulting in 17 locomotives being built with the last delivered in October 1972.

Later rebuilt by Morrison Knudsen Corporation's Australian subsidiary in 1993 into CLF3.
