He was the best written, and any time he's on screen the scene is improved immensely. This comparing to having Uncle, John, Bill, and Sadie on screen even. If anything, Rockstar preaches against racism in this game. Charles is part native and part black, and also happens to be the most honorable do-gooder in the gang with pretty much no character flaws. The KKK is in the game but are portrayed as comic relief buffoons. The super racist dude in St. Denis can be beaten or shot without the law giving a shit. It's a long story-driven game set in 1899 and the n-word is used like once or twice in the entire game... but clearly the game and Rockstar are racist because reasons.
