Note that these three icons knew when to come in and when to stay out of the trio. THAT'S musicianship. They listened and played off each other to make a special moment for all of us to enjoy more than 60 years later.

Disney's greatest stroke among many genius bits of casting was to have Cliff, who flourished on wine, women and song, as Pinocchio's "conscience" but it produced "the greatest vocal of the century", When You Wish Upon A Star.

The voice and talent of Cliff Ukulele Ike Edwards are simply amazing. No one else sounds like him. He was completely unique and always sounds so relaxed and natural. He certainly had his demons and ultimately a difficult life, but he has also achieved immortality. I have no doubt that 100 years from now, people will continue to be totally charmed and entertained by this very special man with a unique gift from God.

Any opportunity to see live footage of Cliff singing is pleasure. To see him singing one of the songs that first brought him to my attention in my childhood is a special gift.

For those who don't know or don't remember, Clarence Nash and Cliff Edwards were the original voices for Donald Duck and Jiminy Cricket, respectively. This piece is apparently from an episode of the old 1950s "Mickey Mouse Club" TV show.

This is Cliff Edwards Guest Star Day performance during Disney's Mickey Mouse Club's first season, 1955/56. November 15, 1955 to be exact. I'm guessing Jose Oliveira arranged this calypso style routine of Give A Little Whistle from the 1940 Disney movie, Pinocchio in which Edwards was the voice of Pinocchio's conscience, Jiminy Cricket. Everyone in this routine looks and sounds like they're having a blast. What is amazing to me about it is that, despite the tortuous path he took to reach 1955 including long bouts of drug and booze addiction, 3 divorces and bankruptcies, Edwards' voice is as strong and leading edge as it ever was altho he's 60yo; and his comic timing and projection, never better. You'd think all of his self destructive troubles would have cost him his most valuable assets by this time. . i.e. That inimitable voice; his signature skill with his ukelele; and ability to make anyone watching and hearing him, smile or laugh with his trademark "eefing". But it didn't. What you're watching here is brilliant stuff by everyone involved, Mickey Mouse Club or no Mickey Mouse Club. Sad to think he died dead broke, alone, forgotten and presumably unloved .... his grave without a marker for 20 years after his death in 1971. But this performance and another a year later for The Club were among the best of many during an amazing career that had deserved the smiles, laughs and applause of millions for more than 40 years until this wonderful 1955 performance of a little ditty about the powerful value of one's conscience that he apparently didn't take seriously enough to abide during the time he lived to perform it..... for others.

Correction: it's spelled Pinocchio, not "PInnochio." Very common mistake, and one I often made when I was younger.

Yeah. But now I'm old. No excuse for screwing it up. lol. Thanks for the heads up, especially because Pinocchio, that movie and its music still connect with me. Saw it first when I was about 4 ....70 long years ago. Probably senility kickin' in as I still love it and anything Cliff Edwards.

I like to believe that deep down Cliff wished that he was able to live up to the ideals of Jiminy Cricket but sadly he was unable to overcome his inner demons

It _was_ from the original Mickey Mouse Club during its first season, since you can see the Blue and White Team Mouseketeers that were used as the audience for Guest Star Days, which was the day this performance appeared in. I really like how charming this is, and re-watches are necessary to get all the amusing ad-libs done.

So nice to see Cliff, Clarence, and Jose’ but Joaquin Garay! They should of had him for this too, after all it ain’t the Three Caberros without Panchito! Was he not available at the time or something? I know he had some Cabana he worked at outside of films and stuff back then so that was probably why too…

Rest in paradise Cliff Edwards Although I must say you should have given *Richard Percy Jones that little whistle to know right from wrong he could have also been your guide *Voice actor of Pinocchio Unlike Jiminy who guided Pinocchio to qualify as official conscience to become a real boy, his whole life is a struggle with alcoholism, drug addiction and gambling which rendered him penniless towards the end of his life

He save the day on that one he had to get for Donald Duck back on track. Some people don’t have strong musicality. I would have to say that or O’Donnell is one of them. Cliff Edwards was a bad son of a gun.

Probably because he died broke after struggling with drugs and alcohol for many years. Such a sad end for the man who was one of my favorite cartoon characters and introduced one of the most famous show tunes of all time ("Singin' in the Rain").
