Leaving the two far rear bolts halfway in is brilliant. It acts as a hinge and also safety wise it keeps the bed from sliding off if you took all the bolts out. Thanks for the video! Note: getting the new pump and O-ring to seat down is very hard. I used grease and also cut a 2X4 and put it between the bed and pump then lowered the bed with my jack every so slightly and used that pressure to hold the pump down.

I've got a 2001 GMC Sonoma and this video helped me a TON! I got lucky and didn't have to splice in the different plug. In all, it would have been easier if I didn't have to do it myself but it just took me a little longer. So much better doing it this way instead of cutting a whole in the bed of my truck. Just pull the 6 bolts and loosen the 2 in the back and jack it up - it really was that easy. Thanks!

Raising the bed, that make's life SOO much easier!!! Me and a couple guys changed the fuel pump on an 06 F-150 a few years ago and it was such a long process dropping the tank and all that.. I'm about to go do the same thing on my little 99 S-10! Thanks for sharing this video Cliff!

I just got my fuel pump in a month ago and I didn't open it when I open it it didn't have instructions on the wires I'm glad you talked about the color wires which one they're hooked to which I wouldn't even known I'm going to try it this weekend

Nice vid. I have a 95 S-10, 275,000 miles and I believe the fuel pump had gone bad. A week ago, due to the sputtering at low speeds I thought maybe a tune up was in order and started with the rotor and distributor cap, put 100,000 mile spark plugs on before with the wires and they all looked good so left them alone. Sputtering continued so I figured the wires would be the next job. Then the dreaded no start after work two nights ago. Mine is the TBI so I pulled off the air filter housing and tried to start, HOPING/WISHING/PRAYING maybe not enough air. Engine continued to crank like a champ, but wouldn't start. Went back under the hood and noticed the absence of gas fumes. Searched for a vid on "engine cranks and cranks but won't start" and got a nice little tutorial on how to test if it's fuel pump or ignition and was going to head in that direction, but wanted to see what changing the fuel pump involved, I even talked to the wife about possibility of getting and updated truck. Then just before heading to bed I decided to check on this job, which I was worried about because I knew the fuel pump was in the gas tank and I had heard that you had to drain the tank and remove it to do the job. Then I found your vid. Based on the vid and the absence of fumes the other night, I am going to just change the pump. With my miles, it has to be due anyway. THANKS FOR THE VID! It chased away the boogeyman. I bought my S-10 used in 2004 for $1800.00 with about 70k miles on the 4.3V-6. Prior owner used it for towing boat to lake on weekends. Other than standard driving expenses and maintenance, I have replaced a couple radiators, alternator, water pump, and manual transmission (only thing I didn't do) and drive it at least 5 days a week. Best investment I ever made.

Good video. Just a note: the ends of those electrical crimp or butt connectors that you used are heat shrink tubing. At least thats how it looked in the video. You shrink them around the wires with a heat gun or carefully with a lighter to seal the connection and keep water, dirt, salt and crud out of the connector.

Just did this procedure on the S10 2.2 Liter L4 pickup Truck, while you are under the truck bed (Safely Blocked up) look at other lines and rubber pieces in that area. Spring loaded pump is a challenge to put back and nylon may break if you use too much pressure. Take the float arm off as soon as possible or put a piece of string on it and you won't have to go fishing in the tank for it as they almost always fall off while taking pump assy out of tank. Also, quick fix on these fuel pumps is to tap the bottom of tank with block of wood and pump may work long enough to get you home.

MOre than tooooools I get that it took 2 hours... AND there's something wrong about this whole process... it should NOT take 2 hours to push down a fuel pump & install the O ring..... when the rest of the job takes WAAAAAAY less than that to comlplete.... This is a big anticlimax to doing a great job

Why do you think there is a strainer on the fuel pump? It stops debris from getting pumped through the fuel pump. I do like the idea of lifting the bed up to change the fuel pump. Never seen that before, but seems to work well.

Great video, another way of figuring out if your fuel pump has taken a dump is to turn the key on, wait a few seconds and then depress the valve stem in the purge valve. With the key on the pump should have developed what ever the required fuel pressure needs to be, if it didnt, fuel pump is bad.

Overall a great video... ONE comment.... the final connection of putting in that snap ring after the new pump is in the tank. This is NO simple task... that O ring should fit under some parts on the outer perimeter and DON'T... This sucks after all the work & connections & that detail is NOT just applying some "grease" There is more and it IS a hassle getting the pump DOWN deep enough & enabling that snap ring to actually go in place where it belongs...
