I'm just a regular guy working in the non-Hollywood or industry world and the flirting/sleeping your way to the top thing happens all the time in corporate America or even a fast-food gig. The 'casting couch' DOES exist, but I'll say I don't agree that you CAN'T sleep your way to the top. However, I will agree with Clifton that if you don't have a certain level of game (not necessarily talent); you won't stay 'at the top' for long. I mean how many singers are famous but CAN'T really give a strong vocal performance? How many famous comedians or actors are getting top pay without being funny or able to act well at all? Not saying EVERYONE has slept around to get to where they are. However, you can't tell me that in the history of Hollywood that not a SINGLE actor, singer or artist of any walk of life hasn't gotten to a certain level of fame and notoriety without a 'casting couch' session. Watch any of those documentaries about old Hollywood and the way they'd abuse actresses and actors ESPECIALLY the younger ones...

Madonna didn't just sleep with men to get to the top. If you study her come-up story, you would know that she was very strategic and determined in her pursuit of stardom. She did sleep with 2-3 key figures (DJs & producers) to advance her career but she was always in control and she manipulated those men into believing in her. She was like Cleopatra. She knew how to play the game and had the basic talent, it's deeper than just sleeping with someone. Same with Mariah Carey. She had Tommy Mottola chasing after HER. Not the other way around.

What is "the Top" for Pierre?! Clifton Powell is telling him that there's only a few elite actresses that command $20 Million per film. If you look at our race, we had the likes of Dorothy Dandridge, Cicely Tyson and Dianne Carroll. Today I would categorize Halle Berry, Viola Davis and Angela Basset to be in that top tier. I really find it hard to believe that the aforementioned slept their way to "the top." Clifton is telling him that the females he (Pierre) has in mind has not and will NEVER sleep their way to "the top" based on their lack of top tier talent.

Right. He's making this point pretty clearly. I don't really get the confusion ya know
@al56032 жыл бұрын
RIP to Dorothy Dandridge, but lets keep it 100. She slept with that old, ugly, married director Otto Preminger in her biggest movie Carmen Jones and he gave her the part. That was clearly sleeping your way up. Now the list of actresses white or Black that make it to the very top is slim, but plenty have had successful careers and became millionaires by sleeping with men of power.

I think Clifton point is you may f your way into one job. But that doesn't guarantee the next job or a whole career.

preach. i was thinking the same thang. its no way that legendary actors and actress of the 70s,80s,90s,2000s is not getting roles. and they are super talented and underrated and way more funnier and entertaining. and new niggas or not funny or entertaining old niggas is getting all the money and fame. example: mary j blidge does not have any major acting experience and she is getting 400,000 or 6.4 million. and somebody with 20 years or 10 years or 30 years of experience is getting peanuts.

Clifton still gotta have one foot in Hollywood, he knows how to respond. Even Broadway, ballet and the symphony work the same way. Harvey Weinstein debutantes did it to the top

I understand that it's his show but he kept interrupting Clifton. Let Clifton speak the truth about what goes on in the movie industry behind closed doors. I don't feel Clifton gets enough credit for his work he's done. He's one of my top favorite actors.

Sorry this is a difference kind of show. It’s not some much as an interview show like ALL the rest it’s a sitting around talking shit show. That’s the way you get more normally unsaid info. But you’re too focused on perfection. So get down with how I get down or ……. But I’m giving you great content. Stop bitching IJS. If you like interview shows watch “60 Minutes”

Actors: This perspective is misleading. Sleeping their way "to the top" means sleeping with power to get a role. It happens all the time. Stop the cap! And do not do odds and ends jobs to make it as an actor. Those days are over. Become a certified teacher, professor, work in IT, etc., until it happens the way you want it to happen. If it doesn't then, at least you have time invested in other career fields.
