Remember when acid rain was going to end us all? Whatever happened to that? Did the hole in the ozone suck all the acid away?
@pyRoy6 Жыл бұрын
Since you ask...acid rain was solved in some areas of the world through policy change. This was possible through research, effective science communication, public advocacy, and (believe it or not) politicians making decisions for the long-term good of their countries. In other areas of the world, this never happened, and acid rain continues to be a problem. Unfortunately, climate change
@pyRoy6 Жыл бұрын
Oops. To finish that thought: Unfortunately, climate change is far less of a localized problem. Its solution seems even more out of any individual's control. I'm sure this is part of the reason why there could be more people experiencing anxiety related to climate.

Well its more than a challenge being anxiety and mental wellness, its reality. Being a half glass empty person, its no surprise, the carnage will likely end for a while about 3 months, if we come out unscathed plan for next summer, knowing it will likely be worse It is likely better to be busy and useful, like be a volunteer, alternatively be creative. That helps me but everyone is different There is no good reason to ruminate or attempt to digest reality. Sadly tragedy is too common even without climate change and our attempts to answer it are very lacking. The best anyone can do is to learn, work in some capacity and attempt to mitigate it into the future. There is no guarantee of saving ones mental health

For anyone confused about whether what we're experiencing today is actually climate change or random weather patterns I suggest you look up the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum (PETM) and compare it to what we're seeing today. During the PETM average global temperatures rose by around 5-8 °C. We're trying to keep it at 1.5 °C and failing. During the PETM around 12,000 gigatonnes of carbon dioxide were emitted over a 50,000 year period, averaging 0.24 gigatonnes per year. According to the IEA report published in March 2022, we released 36.3 gigatonnes of carbon dioxide in 2021, a 6% increase over what we released in 2020.
@mve6182 Жыл бұрын
If you look more closely, you will notice during the PETM it warmed first and then co2 rose. So it seems to me you have your comparison backwards....

I can certainly understand climate anxieties. Especially if you’re very young seeing the scientific data. I’m older and know weather has definitely changed in the last 20 years. Those who deny it’s happening or laugh at the obvious, worst consistent heat waves, more frequent devastation all over the globe are just plain ignorant. Some of the comments are laughable but also very sad
@thecarbonprop Жыл бұрын
I remember as a kid speaking to seniors about the amount of snow in the winters they used to see. They showed me a series of photos of winter where I grew up. Between then and now there is no comparison. Winter is no longer winter. Summer is now forest fires and heat waves. I am absolutely concerned with the world my daughter and grandchildren will be living in. Maybe one day all the trolls will come from under their bridges and realize they’ve been morons and monsters all along.
