NO power anything other than brakes and steering, 5-speed, V-8 with rubber floor. Still runs great today. Only problems is bad rust on rockers panels and cab corners which I had fixed in Oct. 2017. Iowa winters with tons of salt brine on the roads are killing vehicles here.

"Come on it's a truck" that's why this thing would need a big engine. In other countries rangers are diesels, this 2.3 ecoboost is the same little gas engine of the ford focus. Also they are bad, like they break a lot. This thing doesn't have the capabilities of a real truck and costs as much as a mid-high level mustang or camaro. For the money this thing costs you can get a ram 1500 with v8
@luisinhoens90
@luisinhoens90 6 жыл бұрын
@@zachariasprice3762 The 2.3 is based on the Mustang Ecoboost, which has had a good reliability record. Focus RS has a transverse mounted engine unlike the Mustang and Ranger. Also, the price is not ridiculous compared to the segment. The Ram doesn't cost the same, a low optioned 4x2 crew cab V8 is north of 40K, but the Laramies and Rebels are mid 50s, so they're hardly the same price.

Bronco will have no V8 option, nor will it have a manual option. The common engine will be a 2.3 liter turbo 4, and will have the 10 speed auto. They’re still indecisive about an optional 2.7 turbo V6, if they did offer it it won’t be available in the debut. @@gpaje you said "the international T6 platform, which has been developed without a V6 in mind." Do you know this to be a fact or are you just speculating?? Because if this is true the new Bronco will not have a V6 option. I find that to be hard to believe since the Bronco is trying to directly compete with the Wrangler with it's V6 Pentastar and upcoming V6 diesel. It seem more reasonable the new chassis has already been designed to fit Ford's 3.3L, 2.7L, 3.0LD V6s. Will the marketing guys allow a V6 in the Ranger? Good question!

I'm not a big Ford guy, but I like that 6ft box model. I think the idea of one engine is an engineer's dream come true. One engine means one set of front springs, one transmission, etc. You can custom tune the vehicle to the dynamics of one engine. I like the Titan for offering the 'good' engine standard. They should just get rid of 'penalty box' engines meant to punish you for buying base models.

The Lariat gauge cluster with the single speedometer is rather unfortunate. The lack of a factory trailer brake controller is a bit of a let down as well. And once again, Ford has removed the spot mirrors from the BLIS equipped vehicles which drives me nuts because I love the spotters so much on my little Fiesta that I got tow mirrors on my F150 so that I could have both spot mirrors and BLIS on the same mirror unit. Ford needs to get with the program and include spotters on their BLIS mirrors on the future. Other than those observations, this is one hell of a truck that should be a big hit for Ford.

I think Ford is forgetting about the commercial market with this truck. Down where I live most of the Rangers on the road are business owned. With the bed so high off the ground it makes it near impossible to take things in and out of the bed by reaching over the side(and I am 6'6"). Instead of buying a new truck earlier this year we spent $8,000 having ours rebuilt, because no one makes a pickup with a low enough bed that was usable for our business. That is one less new truck that was not sold. The commercial market carries truck sales some years when the consumer market is down, but not when products are not made for them.

One of the strong points of the F150 are the multiple engine choices. I know this truck is a redone overseas model. Perhaps when a true N. American model is made more engine choices will be offered. If any American truck builder would build a no frills truck without the electronic assist bullshit, a manual transmission, single cab, and just let people order the options they WANT or NEED so as to keep the cost of a new truck down. Since "convenience packages" came along in the 80's the price of trucks has risen dramatically and the expectations of what a truck NEEDS for options has too. I will give Ford credit for the bed liner and cab floor liner, things like that are what a truck should have.

Like the other poster said, Nissan still makes the bare bones king cab with 5 speed manual and 2.5 litre gas motor. Its pretty old tech but still gives you a 7 inch touch screen, BT, hands off phone, USB, cruise control. But from the pics on web site it still has roll up windows. That's pretty bare bones. Just be happy that Nissan still provides such a product. Because trucks for the big three is what pays their bills. Big margins and higher profits. Both Ford/Chevy are dumping cars which lose money.

I hate Turbo Charged motors. Can be real problems with age but this truck has a lot going for it. Vinyl floor is nice. It has a great tow rating. This could take the #2 spot for mid-size trucks for sure. I see this selling more than the Jeep Gladiator for sure!
@alliejr
@alliejr 6 жыл бұрын
Turbo engines from the 70s and 80s were problems. Modern turbos are reliable and long-lasting. Yes, eventually the turbo may need service, but that's hundreds of thousands of miles in the future. Replacing a Ford turbo is maybe a $1,600 operation. Not nothing, but hardly a dealbreaker after you've used the truck for 150,000 miles and likely spent hundreds to thousands to maintain exhaust, suspension, gaskets and other comsumables and mainteance items.
@tomthorn2887

@@alliejr Ya, I hear you but we have had too many of them in the shop. I'm just not a fan of these motors. We have seen too many on warranty work for me. Everything else seems pretty well thought out. Not a Ford man but I think it will pass Chevy/GMC mid-size truck somewhere around year three maybe two and the second biggest seller. The vinyl floor I think is genius and wish it was in more trucks. To me that's a no-brainer as an option for every truck! I can't say I love the body style but I do think it's better looking than the Chevy. I think they would be very smart to offer a small V-8 in the next year. Offer people something the others do not have! Really boost your towing and hauling! Plus, it would help to sway some full size truck guys who are not happy with the HUGE full size truck and gas mileage that a lot of the customers really do not like. BEYOND anything...…………………...KEEP the price down!!! Impress people with a lower than average price and they WILL start pulling those Chevy buyers away! They are itching to be pulled away after all the crap GMC has pulled lately! They are ripe for the picking! I am really interested to see how things go for this truck. I am a Toyota guy but I'm not one of those darn goofballs you find all over these videos where your dumb, worthless, trashy, scum if you don't LOVE the brand I love and HATE all people who disagree! ha I swear it's like those guys are crawling out of the woodwork! If someone doesn't love your brand truck and hate all people who drive anything else then you MUST hate them! ha

@tomthorn2887 6 жыл бұрын
@@alliejr Ya, give me a small V-8 for it or a strong V-6. Stay off the turbo I think is Fords best bet for at least one motor offering in the truck. The Turbo they have and then a small V-8 or a plain V-6. To me that is the way they can get Turbo fans and the non-turbo fans. I'm thinking about this as a way to not give former Chevy owners an excuse to buy another one of their mid-size trucks. They need a selection of options that will satisfy customers on both sides of the coin. Turbo and non-Turbo folks. If they play their cards right they can have the Ranger at 125,000 units in sales really fast.

Unknown-You put the word trucks in quotes...like anything without an 8 foot bed isn't a truck? That's a silly notion. People buy "trucks" based on need. If someone can only afford one vehicle for their family of 4...why would they not get one with 4 doors? Should they just put the kids in the car seats in the bed? I have an F-150 ext cab with a 6.5' bed. I can haul full sheets of plywood with the tailgate down. That's good enough for me...but that chore would be more difficult in a smaller truck like Tacoma or Ranger since you can't lay full sheets flat. If having an 8 foot bed is your criteria for what a real truck is, then I guess there aren't many real trucks out there driving around.

Everyone butthurt about the 2.3. The mustang had a 302 back in the 70s. Guess what else had a 302?? A F100. Ford is the only one who is actually inovating and not sticking with outdated tech. Just because it’s not a v8 or v6 doesn’t mean you have to get triggered. We have 5 old trucks that run and the all have v8s or i6s. I don’t have a problem with i4s. It gets more than my 1997 Ford Ranger 2wd xlt so I am happy. Edit: I don’t like the car parking brake though.

Ross R Hohoho. Unbeknowst to most people, in the 70s the Mustang was available with a 2.3L turbo 4 cyl. engine as well...

I wasn’t complaining. It’s gets better fuel economy than a smaller lighter truck. I am all for the 2.3. I do have a 3.0 in my truck but that isn’t that much bigger. You really didn’t read my comment. I know that you will try to respond with some whiny as reason. I didn’t put your name in the comment for a reason. 10 year old.

Funny, my 06’ Dodge Dakota was $15,000 used with 13,000 miles in 2012 with tow package, naturally aspirated V8 and heavy duty suspension, aux. transmission and radiator cooler, can pull up to 7,000 lbs (it’s pulled a full size horse trailer) gets a respectable 15/20 mpg, doesn’t have fancy tech, is fairly easy to work on and is still going at 74,000. How is this Ranger any better for 40k?

I sat in one of these last week and it looks very rugged and capable for the segment. It doesn't need to be attractive, as long as it does the job.

Like the two-tone interior on the lariat . Would get the XL , but can't get Sirius XM radio with it. Priced an XLT for $36425 last summer. Can't wait for 'em to hit the ground!

When I bought my 1971 Bronco the rear view mirror and the AM radio were both options. I didn't feel I needed the radio. Today's vehicles have too many superfluous electronic novelties that are designed to fail and get you back to the dealership.

What's with the tiny screen on the stereo. This is one place they need to quit cheaping out on and have a bigger screen standard. And all those plastic buttons omg! I want this truck but that interior looks so cheap!

All these people complaining about not having a "manual everything" or a "work truck" version. If you don't like it, buy an old truck. Simple as that. You'll save money and you'll stop bitching about how Ford didn't think of you when they were developing a truck for the world market.
