Mister professor doesn't even remotely understand what musical theatre is. It's not just about the voice, although Sammie does do a great job. It's a very carefully choreographed, directed and tirelessly rehearsed set of movements, vocal and facial expressions that must come together to make the story she is trying to tell utterly believable along with her character. Sammie conquers and nails each and every one of them, as she does with all her on stage numbers with the Original Cast. The singing voice has to fit the character and that's not always melodic. I've done characters where I had to "ugly" up my singing to become the character I was playing. Being in musical theatre for over 25 years, I have seen wooden acting where people simply recited their lines with faces almost devoid of expression - albeit because they were mostly nervous. Sammie BECOMES her character, makes you BELIEVE in her character...and that is the sign of a great talent, whether you like her voice or not. Catch her on Foxes and Fossils - "One Sweet Love" and that's where you see what her singing voice can really do.

There are three takes of Sammie covering "One Sweet Love", from 2010, 2011 and 2013. The 2010 is on the Foxes and Fossils DVD, not KZbin. Of the three, my preference is the one from 2011, the nighttime concert.
