If you pay attention to some of the cuts, you can see people doing things like pointing, abruptly getting up with (as far as I can tell when they're out of focus) a rather shocked expression, etc. Wonder how many people's days were made, even if it was just to brag to friends. Great stuff

I think it's a pretty normal thing for a lot of these higher end gyms. I remember when I was swimming, the pool I would go to you would see on the daily Olympians, world record holders, former swimmers.. the first couple of times it was "hey look its such and such" and then after a while you just learn to respect their personal space and even realise how great it is that you can learn how the best in the world do it just by watching for 5 minutes at the end of your training.

Seeing them at your local gym would be like seeing Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher driving bumper cars at your local fairgounds.

Can we just take a minute to appreciate how Magnus takes the time to edit in the boulder grades on the wall and make it look like they were there naturally? When I was just getting back into climbing, I remember working this V2-4ish boulder that was hard for me, and the strongest dude in the gym came over to work a V10+ on the same wall. This guy won every comp in the city. The whole time, he talked me up and cheered me on, he believed I'd get it while I still didn't. Then I got it. Now here's the best climber in the world, and when Magnus says he'll only give a boulder a couple of burns Adam says "I think you'll flash it, no problem." Then Magnus flashes it. I love climbers.

You are not wrong. It's my home gym, I climb there multiple times a week for two years now and met Adam there many times. Especially prior to Olympics. Even tho everyone would wanna talk to him, at the same time everyone kinda respects his personal space and nobody wants to disrupt his sessions, especially when he is shooting something or properly training. Despite all this almost after his every session there is always someone who wants to take picture or something and its completely fine and normal, but its usually after the sesh. I can imagine many ppl took picture with magnus after they were done with shooting. :D

Adam was the climber that i looked up to very much when I started climbing and I learned quite alot in a short period of time just by following him on social media. He is insanely strong but what is the most impressive is that he uses his technique and flexibility as a tool to grind through routes. With that said, I believed and still believe that a good climber needs to be able to identify their tools and the true strength which is our mind and the baggage that we carry. I am pretty sure that is what makes him so great.

how the hell does someone go about creating a bouldering gym like that? like the amount of calculation that has to go into creating so many different pieces, and placing them on the wall in a way that each route is a consistent difficulty. absolutely blows my mind.

Creating the gym is designing the walls. Placing the holds on the walls is called setting and they usually replace large sections of the gym regularly. My gym replaces an area every two weeks with completely new boulders.

It’s not always only one person picking the routes, it’s usually a team of multiple people

I have "set" a few routes and it's not that difficult. You just place holds, check if it works, tweak it if you have an idea, and also be mindful that existing routes don't get in the way or you don't break existing routes. It's a fairly quick process even for a total noob setter like me. If the end result is not fun, you can just tweak it or start over entirely, leaving only fun routes. But, each separate route is like 15min-2h of effort probably. So hundreds of routes is still a lot of work.
