I don't like the idea of the hosts having such strong personal opinions about the competitors on their show. If they don't like people bailing, then design the show in some way that incentivises sending. At the end of it though you can't force someone to want to climb. If they decide something is sketchy and they've got far enough, they should be within their rights to bail. Having everyone rip into Deco for gives a bad look to the rock climbing community
@endlesssearchofknowledgean6998 Жыл бұрын
Exactly.... it's only a competition. Not life or death. Sharma actually brings himself down by doing that. And coming from someone who has climbed as long as he has, he's old enough and climbed long enough that he should know better.

My personal thoughts on the show was that it wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t done right. Although it was filmed great and the idea was solid, it just didn’t capture the essence of climbing or it’s community. Deco was the closest we got to that. They said on the deep water solo he wasn’t psyched, but he was, he literally smiled at the camera and jumped off, he was having fun, and that resonated with me and other climbers. The one thing you shouldn’t do to a climber is to hate on their way of doing something when it works, as there isn’t one beta. I just couldn’t stand how the other climbers kept on criticizing each other, I know it’s a game show, but that isn’t anything close to the laidback, relaxed, and humble community climbers have. Again, deco was the most humble dude there, he’d be the guy you just vibe with. Then again, my point has been stated. Maybe I’m just salty they made them fall into the water WITH THEIR SHOES ON LIKE NO.

@milesforshay908310 ай бұрын
@@YTho-ev1ej I guess that makes sense tho. Tbh I don’t like that tv show drama anyways, like I’m fine with a little but not too much. Like it just doesn’t cater to climbers as much as it really should. Tbh they probably could’ve shown a lot more of the actual climbing (not all, but a lot more) and maybe the first few episodes just explain basic stuff like what’s a pocket a crimp a sloper a pinch etc in a subtle way then just kinda do it in a different way that highlights the climbing.
@YTho-ev1ej10 ай бұрын
@@milesforshay9083 yeh you’re right. I think they wanted to reach a broader audience so they chose drama (silly drama) as the primary point of interest… perhaps in part due to mamoa not being present. All looks like Chris was not happy to lead the show alone as he probably expected some big support from more experienced showrunners. And he stuck there with all these noobs instead of doing some nice climbing projects pretending like he likes what he's doing there. And his emotional state was far away from that guy (Daco?) who was just there to hang out with other climbers like he usually does in his gym. Looking at someone who is having good times with no respect to your mad mood is frustrating :D Props to Daco for not throwing out loudly everything he had in his mind back at those "supportive" loosers. Good self-discipline, it is very useful in this sport.

Well to be fair I mean it's a competition for a single sponsorship, these people were literally fighting for their dream job. I thought it was a bit much the way they all ganged up on him but even he acknowledged that they were right and it seemed to really change his mindset. If you want to be a pro climber you have to be willing to try as hard as you can.
@KIVagant Жыл бұрын
@@Nightwishmaster what if you don’t really need the price? No right to just have fun and make the show actually interesting to watch? :)
@Nightwishmaster Жыл бұрын
@@KIVagant The thing that's messed up about that IMO is how many people would absolutely kill for an opportunity to be on this show for a chance to become a pro climber. If you're there just screwing around and having fun you're kind of wasting a spot that someone else who actually cares should have is the way I see it. If it were just for a money prize and nothing else that's one thing but they're literally competing for a career as a professional climber and it's a shame to deny someone a chance at their dream job if you don't actually care about it.
@KIVagant Жыл бұрын
@@Nightwishmaster I see your point. still, though, I don’t quite believe that that guy was “stealing” anyone’s spot. He enjoys his climbing, he’s comparatively good at this and he even withstood the moral pressure of others while kept climbing better than many. I don’t believe anyone should do something just for sponsorship or money. If one doesn’t have the passion and doesn’t enjoy the activity, what’s the point even to apply to a show? It’s not a sport career where everyone is dead serious. It’s a media show with famous actor in it. It must be fun first and be also serious only for better motivation.
@Nightwishmaster Жыл бұрын
@@KIVagant That IS the whole purpose of the show though, a chance for someone to make their dream of becoming a professional climber come true, it's the chance of a lifetime to these guys. I'm not saying he's "stealing" a spot from someone or that he's right or wrong, I'm just saying I can understand why it would rub the other contestants the wrong way if they're all there with the dream to go pro and it feels like to them he's just there to have fun and get a free climbing trip out of the deal. You have to be incredibly passionate about climbing to try to make a career out of it and this is a once in a lifetime opportunity that a lot of people would kill for.
