Instrumentation, lyrics, arrangements are the best in the business. He ignored what execs wanted him to be. Kenny and Tim and Toby (whom I still like a lot) followed more of a commercial appeal and created a certain image for themselves and Clint stayed his course and disregarded what anyone thought. All the way into the 2000s and his newest album that is about three years old. Not caring about record sales and sold-out stadiums. Most of his lyrics aren’t about the country life, either. They’re about thinkin’, time, “state of mind”, and cerebral concepts. Most underrated by far. Compositions and instrumentation are unmatched. And that voice and range! There will never be another CB! He killed Garth at the awards after their first album and Garth was probably crying and then turned up the marketing machine and stadium shows. He had some gems for sure but lyrics (writes his own), instrumentation, voice, compositions, Clint is the most underrated by a million miles. Best there was or is imo. Hayden is my favorite guitar player ever. And his albums since the 90’s are top notch and overlooked. Sad. Still touring hard!

I love Clint Black and I miss the 90s when Country music reached new heights with so much great traditional country music.. ..On another note, I learned to sing country from Clint Black ( and sounded just like him) and Randy Travis, but I was too shy to go public with it until I was in my early 30s. People were telling me " American Idol", and I was offered a singing job shortly thereafter only to have a stroke and lose my distinctive Country sound :( ... Oh well. I guess it wasn't meant to be. Anyway. I hope history sees another period of such great country music! God Bless!

The fact that he has written virtually all of his songs besides a few covers later on, etc... is mind-blowing. That's on top of composing AND playing. He's the most overlooked and underrated by a long shot. Vince Gill's voice is the only other pure voice, although different than Clint's, that stands at the top of the list. He simply didn't want to follow where the industry went twenty years ago since he is an artist first and foremost.
