But I was 35 years old (this year) when I noticed the background singers going “ooh-ooh” in the background on the chorus and it sent chills up my spine and I fell in love with the song all over again.

The parts of the video where the concert parts are were shot at a New Year's Eve concert at the Summit in Houston, Texas, on December 31, 1990. It was backstage after this same concert where he would meet his future wife, actress Lisa Hartman. A pretty ironic twist considering the song's theme of constantly losing the game of love.

This came out when I was 14 or 15. These songs hit harder as we age. I'm not normally fond of steel guitar but I love the haunting sound of it on this song; same with the fiddle. The neo-traditional sound of the mid-'80s to the early '90s will always be my favorite style of country music.
