Thanks much for your video and extra attention to the connection latch. My 2000 RX300 had multiple codes P1150, P0171, P0172 and replacing this sensor was the fix. Advance Auto will loan the sockets to work on sensors. I used a screw driver on latch as you suggested. (Very tight spot on RX300)

Hey Clint, I have terrible mileage, 15-17 vs what most people get about 22-24. Which O2 sensor could be the cause? No codes are thrown. Been the same way since 168k and now at 189k. Spark plugs and air filter and wires changed.
@ClintHolland5 жыл бұрын
That could be a lot of things including the O2 sensors. Have you checked your air filter as well? This model has 2 upstream O2 sensors that I would replace. You don't have to worry about the downstream one as it isn't used by the ECM for adjusting the fuel/air ratio. It could also be a combination of several things. Assuming it runs pretty well, check the tire pressure, air filter and replace the O2 sensors and see if that helps.

Is there an easy way to determine if it's the upstream or downstream causing the engine light to come on? Autozone test said it's the O2 sensor but they don't know which. The reason I ask is the upstream sensor is 66.00, the downstream is 169.00. Talking about a 2001 Avalon XLS. Thx

@ClintHolland3 жыл бұрын
Upstream. The way to know is by the sensor number. Sensor 1 is upstream, sensor 2 is downstream. The bank refers to which side of the engine it is on, passenger or driver.

Thank you for this video! Do you think the placement of the bank 2 sensor 1 will the same on a 2005 ES330?
@ClintHolland3 жыл бұрын
It depends on what you mean by the same. Bank # and sensor # mean about the same thing across any vehicle. General rules are the following. Bank 1 means on the side with cylinder one and bank 2 means on the side with cylinder 2. Sensor 1 means closer to the engine. Sensor 2 means after the catalytic converter. These are general rules so there are exceptions.

Hi Clint..I was told to use a O2 socket to install or you damage sensor..is this true????
@ClintHolland7 жыл бұрын
Depends on the location. If you can use a wrench then you are fine. The main components of a O2 socket are a slot so the wires can stick through and some have a rubber support piece as well. Just be careful and you should be fine but they are made of ceramic and you can break them if you aren't careful.

I've seen videos calling this one the Bank 1 sensor 2. I need a "left front air fuel ratio" O2 sensor. It's "upstream" -- before the catalytic converter -- but I believe it's against the firewall. I've seen no video describing such. I believe my error code is P1190. I have a 2001 Camry V6 3L. There are 2 upstream and 2 downstream sensors. If possible, post a video showing location of both upstream sensors. Thanks! RMO

@ClintHolland8 жыл бұрын
The 2000 absolutely does have an O2 sensor. My only guess is that whoever you called is calling it an air/fuel sensor instead of an O2 sensor, which isn't that uncommon. They are somewhat known by both terms and many mechanics use them interchangeable. They both do very similar things so I can understand the confusion. However, if you look on autozone you will clearly see they sell part number 13540, which is the O2 sensor for a 2000 Lexus ES300. Also, Chapter 6, Section 11 of the Haynes manual also discusses it having an o2 sensor as well. Either way, we are both probably describing the same thing. To say it has an air/fuel sensor and not an o2 sensor is quite frankly, pedantic.

My opinion at 156K miles would be to just replace them all. It wouldn't hurt anything and there is a good chance that it would improve your gas mileage. While they may work just fine up to and over 100k miles the general industry consensus is they should be replaced between 50 and 100k miles. That's what I would do.
