It's sad how he has to retire . Seen a interview with him where he said every monday morning his body hurt so bad he was almost in tears getting out of bed and he just couldn't do it anymore . He was so awesome. One of my favorite college backs of all time and when he went to denver (my dad's team ( it was even sweeter

Credit James Thrash doing a full block on the away side of the designed run allowing Portis to cut back and take it to the end zone on his first carry as a Redskin. James Thrash was one of the most underrated Redskins of all time. Lorenzo Alexander, Otis Wonsley, Dean Hamel, Monte Coleman, Don Warren, Vernon Dean, etc ... guys who were never superstars with the Redskins but kept showing up and making big plays when big plays were needed.

@TheBrandonbc
@TheBrandonbc 4 жыл бұрын
Hey BRUCE ALLEN.... There is a position called Fullback or H back. This means you don't have to run out of the shotgun and average 48 rushing yards a game... Pass that info down to Greg Munasky and maybe ADRIAN PETERSON can have some success. Hell, you might even establish a run game and be able to take the top off with a play action pass! Also, I don't know if you've noticed but our QBs are below average, so throwing every play isn't the best option.

As a huge fan of Portis (he was literally my favorite player and he along with Sean Taylor were the only reasons I became a Redskins fan) I have to say he was nowhere near the RB Peterson was in his prime.
@nothx962
@nothx962 3 жыл бұрын
He is on APs level...he played 8 seasons and had over 9k yards. AP is a phenom though and has held up for so long at an elite level. But based on pure running? Portis is slept on and probably a top 25 RB of all time.
@nothx962
@nothx962 3 жыл бұрын
@Wesley EPI said CP was a top 25 of all time. AP is top 5. Meaning that they were in their primes AP was on his level...AP was just even higher on that top level, plus has shown how tough and durable he is. His injury comeback was unheard of. I think we're kinda agreeing.
@michaelshields6326
@michaelshields6326 Жыл бұрын
@@nothx962 Portis played 7 years with Redskins. In those 7 years he had a combined 3 runs over 40 yards. There was a 5 year gap between his 2nd and 3rd 40+ yard run. The mark of a truly great running back is the ability to make guys miss or break tackles to create big runs out of nothing. Portis simply did not show that ability at all after he left Denver. Just look at these highlights, there are so many plays here where a better back would have made a guy miss or broke a tackle and gained more yards. Watch Peterson's career highlights and compare them to this. You can't tell me with a straight face that they're on the same level as runners.

he transformed his body to handle Joe Gibbs power running scheme. Its a testament to his greatness as a RB. He could be successful in any running scheme with any style of play. People also forget how amazing of a blocker he was and he could run routes, had good hands, and had amazing vision. I wish we had a more modern offense at the time, cuz he would be amazing in todays pass-happy offenses.

His first game as a Redskin you could see the extra muscle from the offseason, which he didn't sacrifice any speed for, Gibbs tried to recreate him because he couldn't put a line in front of him. Trying to make the fastest back in the league into a fullback is never gonna work. Better zone blocking and passes to him to let him create in the open field with his moves.
