I decided years ago to skip the shave process due to the time and effort involved. By doing a clippers / scissors only cuts i was able to cut 7 people an hour averaging over a dollar a minute. My Customers were used to fast service and preferred the cheaper price.4 yrs later I hired an old Barber who shaved every customer for 40 yrs and charged a couple extra dollars for the cut. We agreed to charge the same price by charging 2$ for the shave. I warned him that most people would pass on the neck shave part. 90 + percent of his regulars stopped asking for the neck shave. he complained about that for months. My observation is that It depends on who the clients are. Some want the deluxe service , some want speed and low cost.

In California, barbershops have to have a barber working to hang a barber pole and have barbershop in the name of the business.

@@clipperguysays only archaic if they were taught in school and tested by state board then not allowed to perform the service. In California barbers are not taught waxing and nails, so barbers can't do waxing and nails. In Washington state barbers are not taught coloring and perms and can't preform those services either, but they only go to school for 1000 hours. Cosmos in Washington go for 2500 and can do everything. Those are the only states I'm licensed in

Sorry Ivan, razors are barbers only. If you want to use a razor go to barber school. I have seen salons using barber pole decals masquerading as barber shops here in Ohio using those nape razors(i check out the competition). I'm sure they are a great product, i'm not knocking that. If you are a salon, you are salon. Please stop trying to act like something its not. Not gonna lie, I seen you using that nape razor kinda skipping thru the video i didn't watch the WHOLE thing, probably should have.

I understand about times changing, I understand that salons want to masquerade as a barbershop and want to do barber things unfortunately. I also understand barbers wanting to do salon things like color, etc. to me a barbershop is a sacred place for a man to go to get a cut and is a door a man should walk through .As far as the barber Pole I feel it’s a sacred symbol for a barber not a hair cutting place. If I see a barber pole I expect a barber not a salon or a hair cutting joint, I want a barber. Thanks for what you do!

@@nick-cb6dl There is no reason someone can't be really good at both and practise both in the same establishment, why limit your clientele?

@@nick-cb6dlI'm a woman and went to a beauty shop and it was full of men. I thought that I accidentally went in a barber shop. I even asked. They were all cosmetologist but there were no dryers, manicures, nor styling. I wanted a blow out and style with my cut. I still don't know why I didn't leave. It was a cheap cut though. I was the only woman client in a beauty shop. I left feeling like "what the hell just happened? " I'm a former cosmetologist too. My license expired when I was in the Navy. This was a civilian place and I wanted to feel like a woman.
