According to the Devs, the giant mutant body Dan had in the first game was a cocoon of flesh created by previous victims while he grew the perfect, none deformed body inside. When you burned him at the end of the first game, you merely burned off the cocoon of rotten flesh, freeing Dan inside.

To address Edward being Dan Barrows: In the PSX version of Clock Tower (The classic one), there is an extra scene after Jennifer escapes from Dan. The camera pans to Dan's destroyed body and a small baby with red eyes and dark skin (similar to Dan) emerged. The massive body Dan had before was fake, used as some sort of incubator for the real Dan Burrows, who was awakened after the outer body got burned. Dan somehow escaped the estate, and changed his name to Edward. As for his new body, I have no idea.

SPOILER In PS1 port of Clock Tower 1 there's some extra scene that weren't in the original SNES version and one of extra scene is after Jennifer burned Dan there's a scene that you can see a small baby rise up from the corpse which turn out to be Edward in this game.

I can help decipher story elements. Dan the gian baby was like an amniotic sack made from the blood of murder victims in order to make him look normal. Dan has a weird psychic power which enabled him to move objects and teleport them in the first game which is why Bobby was able to get around the mansion easily and why the mansion was haunted. When Jennifer burned Dan with the kerosene she destroyed the giant baby pod it's better shown in first fear because after the burning theres a small shape with eyes that turns out to be the true Dan. In 2 his powers help him psychologically manipulate people which is what he did to convince the two fakes and he also influenced his caretaker into doing stuff because she had a latent desire for him. This game is pretty dark.

dude the fax scene is one of the scariest parts of any game ive ever played, and im a survival horror junkie. i guess it's in the eye of the beholder. but i found it really creepy how you can hide in that room, feel youre safe, then the fax machine noise randomly happens to break the silence, then you go over and read it and you're like "oh crap" then after you read it you can hear the scissors and the music. its genius actually.

As a follow up from yours and Jontron's Clock Tower, this sequel is INSANE. Mouse functionality, levels of polish, continuity without detriment to the big bad, AND DISCOURAGING METAGAMING? I have a feeling that the written message from the fax and the words on the monitors were likely a lot more intimidating in their original Japanese script and that the English team just decided to tone them down for whatever reason. The fax probably read something akin to,"Your mangled corpse shall make a fine trophy!" And the screens probably said something like, "Death!" or "Damn you!"

What I am about to say is not to be taken lightly, because I'm very cautious of saying it casually: your channel is seriously underrated. You are one of only a handful (that I know of) of game reviewers who knows how to strike a good balance between in-depth analysis and "short, sweet, and to the point." From the intro of your videos to the personal experiences you share with some of these older games, it really takes me back to a better time, when I was just a dumb kid enjoying the hell out of some SNES and PS1 games. It's clear that you study a game before you dive into production, and the quality of your videos has only risen since I started watching your channel. Lastly, you helped me understand WHY I love survival horror games, because I feel the same way you do: it's all about the suspense and the struggle to make decisions in the face of Game Over, not the delivery of the spooks or the jump scares. Just wanted to let you know that your hard work has paid off, at least I think it has. Keep doing exactly what you've been doing, Nitro Rad.

I remember when I was 12 I had reconstruction surgery on my ear after being attacked by a dog I was in the hospital and my mom brought me my ps1 into the room and she said I bought you a new game. I know how much you love horror games.
