I truly didn't know that the sport tuned motor had timing, learned something new today. The paint scheme is beautiful and the the video that showed the tire speed was a great touch, I'm more of a visual person myself. Thanks for sharing, can't wait to see it's running video.💯💯💯💥💥🤜🤛

I wasn't thinking about it all when I grabbed them and stuck them in there! Thanks to one of the viewers that mentioned it and I immediately went out and checked and yup, running much different speeds. The zero timed ones I put in are running pretty much dead on and now I am much happier. I am pretty sure I could have run it the way it was but I knew it was wrong and it would have bugged me to no end!

@ShenRC

Yep that's what I always tell people and they always say no they are not timed! I always run the 20T cheap $11 RC4WD crawler motors in mine. It looks sweet
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground 2 жыл бұрын
Well we have proof now on video that they definitely run at different speeds forward and reverse so it means they are timed! I looked around and when I found these I got suckered into the pretty rebuildable cans and of course the blue sticker on it gives it more horsepower by default!!! LOL!! I know that are not going to be super fast, I was going to go with the 17t ones but knew I would flip it right away so I stayed with the tamer 23t!!!
@ShenRC
@ShenRC 2 жыл бұрын
@@AddamsPlayground yeah anything faster than those 20T I run your just going to break these trucks all the time... your 23T motors may be faster than those RC4WD 20T I use I think I got 16mph on 2s with the 20T motors.
@christopherdeguzman1137
@christopherdeguzman1137 2 жыл бұрын
This is so awesone! I was gonna mention that on KZbin first video, but someone already mentioned it.☺️. Shen RC put RC4WD 20t motors in his clod, Since those were zero timed motors. For my motors I used 2 HPI firebolt 15t motors with a HW 880 esc. The HPI firebolts are also zero timed. I have been using the combo for many years on my Clods with no issues. And with a 2s it’s pretty peppy.☺️. I just recently got the grey edition also and I didn’t care for the new decals so I ordered a MCI racing 80’s clod repo decals and instead of yellow stripe I changed the color to Cyan blue which is similar to the blue on the grey clod. I like the decal of Klub klebfoot crushing the clod.😀. Honestly, I didn’t care for Luke’s color on his clod along the cyan blue roll bar, but to each their own!☺️. I just left the grey on the clod and just put clear coat on the body. Anyway, great job on the clod! Can’t wait to see you run it. I know I will!😀🤙🏻
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks!! I know better and was just too excited and scatterbrained to think about it. I wanted it to be a little faster than stock but not too much so went with the 23 turn and we will see how it goes! The decals from MCI sound cool and will certainly give it a look all it's own. The only thing I don't like about these decals is cutting out the chrome mylar ones! They are always a pain to see what you are doing and you have to be so dead on with them to not have tiny edges of silver on them. I thought about clear coating it but kind of like the matte finish of it. Like you said, we all have our own ideas and preferences for them! I'd love to see yours once it is done, feel free to email me some pics of it once you get it all built up!!!

@@AddamsPlayground Sure thing Addam! I have to finish restoring a Nikko/Tronico Jumbo truck or Nikko Thor here in America. I just acquired a RadioShack Car crusher 2 as I was gonna use it for parts, but truck runs fine besides the cut off antenna of which I’m gonna just splice it back in place and soldier it so the truck can run further.🤣. I may just see if I can 3D print a part that the shock mounts to. As that part broke. I don’t think I will get a Nikko Thor or Hawg for parts since those trucks are so expensive even if it’s not running. I could get another hobby grade buggy or even another clod.🤣. These Nikko and RadioShack toys are also an arm and a leg.😕 maybe you can start a series on Nikko Thor/Hawg/Midnight thunder like the one on T2.😀. Love the content on the RadioShack Golden arrow. Maybe a series on the Nikko Dictator/Frame buggy/Rhino?🤔. Anyway, sorry for the rambling, once I get the clod assembled and decaled I’ll email pics to you. Keep up the great content RC wizard!

I was hoping to get some snow to go out and play in with it but we have gotten about 73 snow flakes so far this whole season! So I like the lighter factory grey to be honest and just going to leave mine the way it is like the box art. Also what is wrong with the stock 27 turn silver cans? They are plenty fast for what they are. Nice video and thanks for your time.

I agree the moulded color looks great and it is kind of silly to me they don't match the color to the paint they tell you to paint it! There is nothing wrong with the stock motors but I wanted this one to be a little peppier than my other. Since the sport tuned ones didn't work out I picked up something close to them.

Nice info and good looking clod :) I build me one as well in white color. Using Absima 15T eco stock motors. They dont give much punch. 17km/h is top speed. I have consider change motors to something that it can run in 25km/h but it just feel like this big rig cant handle to much power. Strong yes but I feel this is not ment to handle to much speed or it will brake or loose screws. I think it is best have it in 17km/h and use it for what it is? but happy if i can get some info if I can go up little in speed without risk brake it.

I am kind of surprised it only gets up to 17kph on the 15t motors. I would think they would get it up closer to the 20-25kph zone and that is about as fast as I would want one. Any faster than that they just become weebly-wobbly and out of control in stock form. That and roll-overs are going to quickly beat that body to death! It is hefty chunk to be taking high speed tumbles. They are more fun just cruising around and bumbling over small things and enjoying them for the retro monster trucks it is modeled after. You can go fast and be very agile with the axles, you just have to replace the rest of the truck off of them. Many of the "clod" race trucks are just clod axles and everything else is aftermarket and that can cost a small fortune! The Holmes Hobbies Retro sport motors are a inexpensive way to upgrade it and get a little more oomph out of it. A pair of their 15t motors should get you closer to the 25kph area but still have enough grunt to get it up on the rear wheels.

@@AddamsPlaygroundYes I did try the 15T eco motors from Absima but not close to that speed with 7.2v nimh. But it did get up to 19km/h Clod may hit the 20 mark with 2s lipo. But I`m at the moment building the Agrios 4x4 from Tamiya. 2x sport tuned motors or 13T brushed racing motor and 19T pinion. The thing is the 13T racing from absima are not so crazy with 7.2v nimi but will give a bit more power. But if use 8.4v the 13T racing motor sure give you a good run for the 1.2v extra power. I think the TXT-2 chassi can handle a run 25-35km/h. It have so much metal parts and oil shocks. Update: I did deside try the sport tuned motor first.

I think it just that OG monster truck looks from when we were kids! They are about as true to those original car crushers as they could make it and drives just like them! I think this will be a fun one and one 3s it should go more than fast enough for a truck that is basically the same as it was 35 years ago when it came out!

I was thinking at Tamiya factory. The most of us are Tamiya enthusiast even if we know very well that Team Associated, Traxxas, Losi, Shumaker, KYOSHO even Redcat and other are better (technology and materials). This notwithstanding we love Tamiya cars. They comunicate a special feeling of happiness, friendship, warm and safety life. I mean this is what I feel. And the genius in this factory is that success comes duplicating herself. This Clod Buster only with color changed, and may be some little differences to the original, is welcome as a new project. Great! and that's why we love Tamiya. Ciao Nanni

The Tamiya strategy of reusing and riding on popular kits has served them well!!! I mean almost all of their kits have re-used chassis under multiple bodies and names over the years. I am fine with it, I am a sucker for the nostalgia of them and also for when the 're-design' them like this! Toy companies have been doing it for decades. Heck Nikko made thousands of cars all on the same chassis for dozens of companies in the 80s. The great thing about the hobby is you can find almost anything you can imagine to make you happy and suit your needs now and that is super cool! Thanks as always for watching and taking the time to comment Nanni, I always love hearing from you!

So we’re both the old motors the exact same and if so was it only the fact that they were timed motors and you can’t match them completely that caused the issue? I’m just trying to understand. Much more difficult to process at 7am lol
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground 2 жыл бұрын
The stock ones it came with are fine as they are both zero timed motors meaning they are neither advanced nor retarded timing. The Sport Tuned I stuck in there come with fixed advanced timing so the front motor runs in a normal rotation so being advanced timing (ahead of zero) it runs at a higher RPM with a bit more punch than stock. The rear however runs in a reverse rotation (all you do is reverse the positive and negative wires to make it turn in the opposite direction). Running in the reverse rotation means it is now running retarded (below zero) timing meaning it is running slower RPMs and with less punch. This would case the front motor to work even harder as it would be dragging the whole truck around as the back motor is not running as fast or with as much power as the front. The new motors are both set to zero degrees of timing so they will have the same RPM and punch in either direction as both are at zero timing in both directions. Advanced timing is done to move the armature closer to the magnets when that segment it energized. It can both help in getting more power and speed out of the same motor. There is a fine line between adding power and speed and starting to produce negative affects of it. Usually anything between 1 and 12-15 degrees of advanced timing will make it more powerful and more than that can start degrading power. The downfall to advancing the timing going forward is it has the opposite affect on the reverse power as you are weakening the motor and slowing it down when it is trying to spin backwards. Hope that helps

Yeah it was an oversight on my part by putting the Sport Tuned motors in there and not remembering they had advanced timing. The new ones were easy to swap in and the old ones will certainly get dropped into other builds (one may be getting use already!). I think the Sport tuned motors would work but it is just not the right way to do and the front is always going to be lugging the rear end around more. The TB motors are cheap enough and work well. the 17T is going to be fun in there but not too terribly fast!!

No the stock motors have 0 degree timing so they run the same speed in either direction. I have found the best ones to use as upgrades is probably the Holmes Hobbies Retro Sport series as they are all 0degree timing as well and are available in 15t, 17t, 19t and 21t winds so you can speed it up a little or a lot with them and they are inexpensive.
