😮 there was a lot of lint and huge lint wads in this one. I was shocked to see the vacuum just take all of it. These megavacs rule!

I like how you put the vacuum hose right at the opening of the vent. Keep the dust down considerably.

I want to to this all day everyday lmao. How inconvenient though, that pipe being right there. And all that lint and junk stuck in there! I'm surprised their clothes were getting dry at all. I love the way the dust is getting sucked into the vacuum. Just the light hitting it and seeing it swirl into the vacuum is so satisfying. Love it!

That poor dryer has possibly restricted airflow for most of its life ~ that is a 4-flap vent, the top flap is constricted by the overhanging cladding on the house, the second flap down is hitting the pipe and catching the 3rd flap, only the 4th/bottom flap is opening fully. No wonder why the duct is full of lint ⚠️

What genius thought it was a good idea to put a pipe in front of the dryer vent?
@samuelfellows6923
@samuelfellows6923 2 жыл бұрын
Particularly that it is a gravity 4-flap vent and the top of the vent is above the cladding on the house, and the second flap down is being blocked by the pipe - he has ripped the 2 lower flaps out to clean the duct ~ a very poor/crap installation of the vent 🫢⚠️

How can you consider the dryer vent cleared when half of the dryer vent is initially blocked by a pipe across it? That’s the first thing it needs to be rerouted 😮

Our dryers in Alberta Canada are vented out with vent covers . They are for air to go outside and keep creepy crawlies outside. Not located by windows and are away from driveways so vehicle fumes don't enter the house. There are building regulations that state where the vents can and can't be placed .

I never buy a house that the dryer and it’s vent is on an exterior wall , very short line to clean and never have lint traps, these homes that have laundry rooms in center of house drive me crazy for this very reason!!!! Nice work!!!

I'm a retired sparky and had general contractors try to put blame on extra long dying times on the #10 guage copper wire that I used for electric dryer 30 amp 240 volt receptacle. Told them it was a math problem. Lazy general contractor & architect design dryers to sit on first floor at least 13' from exterior wall and have five 90 degree elbows. Most dryer Manuel's state to never go over a certain amount of 4" round duct. Think it was 21'. Each 90 degree elbow think adds at least 4' in resistance. Had to show them the voltage at receptacle and that it was drawing the rated ampere. Have a nice day Best was when they asked my opinion on how to fix it. Told them try replacing the 4' duct with at least 6" duct and rearrange the new 6" 90 degree elbows to 45 degree making a longer turn radius. Of course I knew that would never fit in a 2 by 4" wall .

Are these only in the US? i don't think ive ever seen a house with one of these.. Everyone i know has there dryer next to a window and just sticks the dryer pipe out the window when drying stuff, then closing window afterwards o.O

I've never been outside the US, so I"m really not sure if long dryer vents are uniquely American. It wouldn't surprise me though. There are plenty of laundry rooms that are on an outside wall, making the duct line just a few feet long and in rare need of cleaning. But many homes now place the laundry room in the middle of the house, making the dryer vent line 20 plus feet long!

And over there in 🇬🇧 and Europe have ditched the vented tumble dryer and are upgrading to condenser/heat-pump dryers, only the condenser ones have the excess lint problem - they have got a screen/filter in the output from the drum that manages to catch most of the lint and has to/must be cleaned after every load, and the condensate tank regularly emptied, the air flow is a closed cycle in that part; fan>heater>drum>screen>condenser 🔄 the open/outer air flow; room air goes into a vent in the kick board > a fan that blows across the condenser > into the dryers internal cavity and out vent slats in the rear panel ~ the dryer must have plenty of clearance on the top,sides and back for airflow. Unfortunately they are unenvironmentally-friendly and energy intensive as their vented counterparts but the only environmentally friendly thing with them is they dump the hot air into the room their in = we tend to use them in winter and in a cold room/garage, and if in the kitchen/diner/utility room with the [rooms] door open, it will partly heat the house/bungalow and you don’t need to put the central heating on ~ you can put laundry on an airer to dry clothes with the heat/open a window to get rid of it (it is now popular/a building regulation to install a extractor fan in a utility room ~ incase the owner buys and puts a condenser dryer inside it and the fan is another way of removing the heat). For heat-pump ones, they have less of a lint problem as they have 2X filtering/screens and the evaporative coil has a self-cleaning function = condensate is sprayed onto it to wash off the lint and goes down the drain/into condensate tank. These are more environmentally friendly as they dehumidify the laundry with warm air, some have a heater in them to boost/additionally heat the air, near the end of the cycle the hot/evaporated refrigerant is diverted to an external condenser coil & fan to dump the heat into the room for the dryer to cool itself down and stop.

@@samuelfellows6923 Can you show me an example of one of these? Cause everyone i know in England just uses a normal dryer that has a pipe that you stick out the window when you use it, and im generally curious what people are upgrading to as all this is new to me, I know in the future heatpumps would be used to heat a house but i didnt know it had anything to do with a tumble dryer?

It was just over 30 feet! The amount of lint filled my large shop vac tank more than half way! I've seen duct lines as bad or worse only a hand full of times in 13 years of doing this. So this one ranks pretty close to the top!

You need to ask the owner to move the pipe - if possible? And cut a square in the overhanging cladding so the flaps on the gravity vent can fully open ✅

I think they only had a small dog. But I don't recall how long the current owners had lived there. Much of the buildup may have been from a previous owner. But yes, there was a lot of hair, probably animal and human, mixed in with the lint!

I'm kind of a slow methodical perfectionist, and I like to keep it simple, but I also like to make sure I'm keeping things as clean as possible. So I prefer not to use the air compressor tool that a lot of dryer vent cleaners use as it blows lint everywhere. Instead, I use a brush, the Gardus Linteater, which I will link to below. I typically clean from the outside in with the dryer running on an air only cycle and then clean it up, as you see in the video, with a vacuum on the outside. I just use a large Rigid shop vac. The virtue of this particular brush is the bristle alignment which allows lint to pass through the brush where many other brushes have bristles that are too close together to allow for that, leading too often to compacted lint. The brush system I recommended also comes with a vacuum adaptor so you can hook your vacuum directly to the duct line, typically from the inside, if there if no dryer. If the lint is dry, a good shop vac, with the adaptor I mentioned, is all that's needed to suck the lint out, once it has been loosened from the duct surface. If you're looking to get into the business, there are many other smaller items that I would recommend having, particularly things that will allow you to do at least simple repairs to the duct line or vent cover, but it would be tedious to list them all here. Let me know if you are looking to get into the business and I would be happy to give you as much info as I can! smile.amazon.com/LintEater-Rotary-Cleaning-System-Gardus/dp/B08LH63G4X/ref=sr_1_20?crid=2623F6LRAN8ZW&keywords=gardus+lint+eater+dryer+vent+cleaning+system&qid=1658705706&sprefix=gardus+lint+%2Caps%2C135&sr=8-20

Thankfully, it doesn't work that way :) I know you're likely just joking, but the main thing forcing the lint out is the air flowing from the dryer. So if the duct line became disconnected, you'd know :)
