One of the best things in Autocad I recently discovered was how I can choose the object snap for each time by pushing shift, then right click then the list of snaps pops up. It's so easy to shift + right click then hit "E" for end point! I use it for dimensions and all kinds of other stuff all day long!

Extra tip: when it asks for fuzz distance you can type jointype which gives you the option to extend the lines into eachother or add another joining line. Or you can set it to do both
