And...From.several documentaries I've seen ...She didnt want to come out front....and just be the lead - "Front Woman" figure the promoters insisted on. She just wanted to be...as seen here...part of the band. behind an instrument....because she had a horrible perception of her own self image. Had they listened to her wishes...Had they cared. . at all ..about the slowly dieing angel..She very well couldve survived.

My most favorite memory of this song is when one of my older sisters handed me the phone, after she dialed, and asked me to ask the DJ to play this song. My sister must have called in 20 times already, and I guess she thought if a different person requested the song perhaps the DJ would play it sooner. Anyway, the DJ was Skinny Johnny Mitchell in Salt Lake City. When he answered the phone I requested this song, and he asked me if I was the same person who kept calling in, and I told him no. And he said that he didn't like liars, and I responded by saying, "No! I'm a boy!!" Knowing that it was my sister that was likely the one who kept calling in, and was a girl, of course. But you know what, I'll bet there were several others who kept calling in that same night requesting this song. Man! We're talking around 50 years ago! Thank heaven we can listen to any song we want to at any time! God bless Burt Bacharach, Hal David, and The Carpenters!

Karen had such a deep, sultry voice. She could sing in a range typically only meant for men, but her voice was so pleasant and smooth in that range it was simply beautiful. It’s a real shame the psychological disorder she suffered which led to her premature death. What a talent to lose. A one of a kind voice that will never be repeated. RIP Karen. You’ll never be forgotten since you had a voice for the ages. No musical fads or other genre of music that fades along with the talent that made up that particular genre. No, Karen’s voice was pure and her music untainted. Just music with no fads or other stylized music in a box. She just produced great music that will stand the test of time. That voice will live forever.

I had no idea just who " Carpenters " were , no idea who was singing, but what I DID know, was that voice : clean -----pure------& unforgettable. I rushed to get the 45 , from the record store in downtown Denver , ' Harmony Records " on Welton St., between 16th & 15th streets. I paid 79 cents , got back to the room where I was living , 23 y/o, heading to 24, & a senior, finally, in college, at CU-Denver. I got home, & listened, & listened ; the more i did it, the more I was in awe ; I knew then, that whoever " Carpenters " were, there was real, genuine, talent there/ Karen was 20 y/o, & Richard, my age. What a voice -------& for Richard, his sheer genius at song writing, arranging, & production . they were so young , as was I --------it still breaks my heart seeing, & knowing that Karen never knew how good she really was , never believed in herself , & in the end, destroyed herself , without illegal drugs, smoking, or alcohol. --------RIP, beautiful Karen. The music you & your Brother made, lives on now, & will, 4-ever.-----MJL, 75 y/o

Absolutely, she is #1 and it is not close. Singers like Celine, Mariah, Whitney, etc. all strain and resort to unnatural histrionics. Karen Carpenter was totally unforced, smooth as honey, pure gold!

@@ieronimo18 how about Aretha Franklin?
@ieronimo183 жыл бұрын
@@raimundussili1901 Like Celine, Mariah, and Whitney, Aretha had a singing style that was forced, histrionic in nature, and tried to show off. Karen Carpenter made zero effort to show off or force her voice into unnatural registers. If you enjoy shrieking nonsensical singing styles, there are countless singers to choose from. Many of them sound like wounded animals.

Hermosa Karen, este es otro de los buenos grupos de los 70. Una pena que siendo tan jóven muriera víctima de esa terrible enfermedad que es la anorexia.

I was born in 1970 same year this album was released. Love this kind of music, you can hear the instruments, relate to the lyrics, and it just makes you feel good. Love it!

Sorry for the famous female voices, but this is the most beautiful and tender voice I have ever heard in my life. It is not only having a powerful voice, the beauty of a voice that reaches the soul has to do with calm, simplicity, and tenderness.

Imagine how many decade's there could of been had Karen not passed. Probably the smoothest effortless voice ever.

I heard this unexpectedly on the radio and its great beauty hit me like a ton of bricks. Such sincere sweetness and such elegant simplicity. I hate that radio overplay in the 70s ruined it for generations to come. It’s time for a comeback. ❤️

This world needs Karen ever so more. There never will be another like her. God lent her to us ever so briefly to know what a heavenly voice sounds like.

As someone that is old enough to have heard her live, this tune is haunting to me. I was thinking about Karen and Judith Durham and the Seekers. These two are simply have the strongest voices female sounds with such ranges and pitches way up there. but I have to say Karen Carpenter is the best but Judith is a close second.
