I took Aikido in college from 95 to 97, and it was ok at best. I had black belts in 3 other arts. and day one I put my instructor on the floor. He took me outside, and told me I needed to fall for him. Do not embarrass me like that again, or you will need to leave. I apologized to him and for the next 18 months I just went with the flow.

Any actual real attacks with more than 1 move thrown by the Uke in this curriculum?...No kicks,no lunges,no real clinches,no resistance...This is all nice to watch,like a nice cultural dance ceremony but if you fanboys think a fight or defending yourself ever looks like this then you are totally mistaken.
@FreeSalesTips4 жыл бұрын
So-called "real attacks" are meaningless within aikido. Aikido works by the aikido guy moving in complete harmony with the attacker. This means when it's done properly, it is absolutely impossible for the attacker to resist the aikido guy because of the efficiency of the harmony involved. This means that resistance is meaningless within aikido, all that matters is the attacker is giving energy and the aikido guy is efficient at harmonious union.

@blockmasterscott4 жыл бұрын
That’s not really what it’s made for. It has the joint locks that you see in Cops, but not the stuff you see in the cage. The stuff you see in this video isn’t made for real life, it’s just people having fun seeing how many ways you can throw someone. That’s why you see the attacker giving his hand out instead of attacking like in real life. To put in basic layman’s terms, Aikido is just people having fun and getting cardio by throwing each other around.

Lovely demonstration of the art, techniques and harmony however, what would it really be like against an agressive positive non-compliant attacker. It would have to change to work in the real world, wouldn't it?
@FreeSalesTips4 жыл бұрын
Aikido works the same with a non-compliant attacker. Aikido is fundamentally based upon the defender feeling and responding to the attacker. As such, it doesn't matter how strong or fast the attacker is, everything the aikido defender does is in efficient harmony with the attacker.
@LunaticReason4 жыл бұрын
I think it would be the same for any martial art against a non compliant attacker in that you should never expect it to work as simply rather it's a "fight" and will probably take several failed attempts to pull off a move or adapt to a move. It's like someone in Boxing getting knocked out by a basic combo, it's not going to happen rather there is going to be a lot of back and fourth and changing strategy til someone wins. I feel however the methodology for learning Aikido is akin to play in which you get to explore versus a fight which is non compliant and will box you in.
@FreeSalesTips4 жыл бұрын
@@LunaticReason Your thinking about comparing aikido to any other martial art is mistaken. Aikido works by applying zero strength in all situations. Attackers move according to the aikido guy's influence because the attacker contributes all the energy to the attack and the aikido guy makes efficient use of the attacker's energy as a consequence of the intimate harmony of the aikido guy. Whenever the aikido guy forces the attacker to move through the power of their own strength rather than manipulating the energy provided by the attacker, the aikido guy is actually contradicting the fundamental reason why aikido exists. There aren't many martial art forms in the world that require the kind of harmony in energy that aikido demands; the closest that comes to mind is judo. One thing I can tell you about learning aikido is that it is very common for aikido practitioners to misunderstand the foundation of why aikido exists as they only understand the techniques but not the foundation of aikido. As much as I like to teach my interpretation about the foundation of aikido, my teaching to a novice will not be comprehended no matter how many times I repeat what the novice should aim towards. What I can easily teach are a syllabus of techniques: body positioning, where to feel the energy, . Drilling techniques into students is significantly easier to teach than comprehending the meaning of aikido. The appreciation of the meaning of aikido develops after developing a certain level mind-body understanding of what it means to efficiently move in harmony with the attacker. Many who practice aikido do not connect their aikido techniques with the foundation of aikido.

Надеялся увидеть айкидо в реальном применении, но, похоже, в этом аспекте его можно увидеть только в фильмах Стивена Сигала. Там, даже, вроде как реалистичней выглядит.

I'm not an aikidoka, but lots of people do lots of things I find useless. That doesn't mean people don't derive some benefit from it's practice. We don't walk around with dueling swords, but fencers don't find their sport foolish. I hate accordions but people enjoy playing them anyway. The Civil War ended 160 years ago, but reenactors still put on hot as shit wool uniforms and traipse across a field with a twenty pound musket in their hands. Jujitsu, firearms practice, Muay Thai. If your reason for training is that you might need it someday not because you derive satisfaction and pleasure from the training itself, then you might be suffering a lot of pain and financial outlay for nothing. If nobody ever gives you a chance to show off your John Wick moves, practical martial arts are just as pointless
