Thank you for not leaving you tube Warren. That was very interesting and educational. I have several heavy hydrostatic machines and I have always been baffled by the compensator control in a closed loop hydraulic system. Watching it twice explained it better than I have ever heard before. Everything you put up on KZbin is more than just education. People like you and Watch Wes Work are masters of your trade and damn good teachers. Please keep it up and all the best from Scotland. Take care

I absolutely hate those electronic control valves. Just too much can go wrong with them. They can and do rust and that can cause a lot of issues as well. Around here, we call 'em hay stackers. Awesome machines so long as they're working properly. This is why you're probably the best mechanic that works on farming equipment. You figure it out and yes, you even go to the manual occasionally, I've known a few mechanics that don't do that and "think" they know it all. Great video as always. Cheers :)

Warren, great video. Love to see your thought process when attacking a broken machine. As far as trying to figure out where the piece went, well just know probably many hands had been on that machine until YOU got there. The original problem may have been the pump? being weak but there is no way to know for certain. The bottom line is YOU fixed the issue not someone else. YOU. as always great job. Be safe out there

I viewed this video the other day, and it was the first time I had ever seen one these types of farm equipment. And was a bit confused on how it worked, even when you explained it. This afternoon I was skipping around KZbin and saw one the bale stackers, on another farm and watched. Interesting you know we live together n the greatest country ever. A country that has allowed people to come up with machines that help eliminate the back breaking work of dealing with square hay bales.

Fascinating and great description of the troubleshooting. One thing i dont understand though is the lower orofice plate being missing - I could see it if it had been mis-assembled at some time, but I thought there was a seat for it, so unless it disintegrated surely it should be in the cavity and not blasted into one of the hoses or block (lord alone knows the problems this might cause!) - I can also see it being improperly seated allowing a high flow as Daniel Boyd said. Either way great troubleshooting skills and really pleased to see you posting again.

Hats off to you Warren, hydraulics can get complicated pretty quickly. I remember working on auto-cycle trash trucks and those electric trigger switches were a constant pain because if they dumped a wet load that liquid would cause a negative trigger and stop the cycle mid push. I didn't see a lot of electronics on those cylinders, I'm sure they the switches for automatic mode.

We use to set variable displacement pumps by backing out the Pressure cut out, screwing in the stand-by all the way (stokes the pump) & then bringing the pressure cut out up to the desired set pressure & then backing the stand-by down until you get your 25 - 35 bar stand-by pressure. This is on Drill Rigs. These days we use 3 ball valves & 3 hoses, we stroke the pump off itself from the output to the compensator & with the 3rd hose we run that back to tank so you can dump that LS signal if things start going pear shaped. The way you're doing it is a pretty safe way to do it.

Hi Warren, Throw a roll of barrel size garbage bags in your fixit truck, they make good seat covers, floor mats and cut it open to make okay tarps and nut/bolt catchers underneath the equipment or something to lay upon and can be used to cover an open motor to keep dirt out.

Stall pressure on a closed center hydraulic system is essentially the same as the pressure relief valve setting value on an open center hydraulic system. They are both the maximum allowable pressure in the system under any given condition.

Are you saying that the original orifice either found room to dislodge or simply broke into small enough pieces to move out of the body and into the system randomly? If so, is there not the possibility that it will become free to move into a WRONG place in the system?

Rexroth Bosch has classes on you tube how load sense variable displacement piston pump s work. Excavator s use these . Kawasaki or Rexroth. Pumps cost $30k + Charge pressure runs of gear pump about 300-700psi . Charge pumps usually get tired first. Load sense valves get clogged or oring fail. Remember Miss Shilling's orifice made to counter engine cut-out in early Spitfire and Hurricane fighter aeroplanes during the Battle of Britain in WW2?
@PoliticalGangster4 жыл бұрын
No but sounds interesting. Please explain.
@vanellusx27854 жыл бұрын
@@PoliticalGangster the Merlin engine being carburetted and not fuel injected could suffer from fuel starvation in certain negative ‘g’ manoeuvres. After the starvation and returning to normal ‘g’ the carb would flood which could kill the engine. Miss Shilling was a lady engineer who worked for the air ministry and she invented a modification to the carbs on the Merlins which would stop the flooding. It was a washer with a hole in it and it was nicknamed “ Miss Shillings’ orifice” in typical British humour😉The carbs were later altered to a different design but in the meantime Miss Shillings’ invention helped the RAF win the air war. She must have been quite a character being female and an engineer in the 1940’s! Think she and her husband raced cars in their spare time. That’s my understanding anyway and I stand to be corrected by those of greater knowledge😬
@davidholder32074 жыл бұрын
@@PoliticalGangster The Rolls-Royce Merlin engine originally came with a direct carburettor, prone to cut-out due to fuel flooding in negative G. Engineer, Beatrice 'Tilly' Shilling, designed a thimble-shaped brass flow restrictor (later refined to a flat washer) with precisely calculated dimensions to allow just enough fuel flow for maximum engine power. It came in two versions, one for 12 psi manifold pressure and another for the 15 psi achieved by supercharged units. This fixed the issue to the surprise of German fighter pilots. The rest is history!!
