This worked (white belt here). Did it 3-4 times tonight and avoided all sweeps. Some of my opponents even tried the waiter sweep when I did the windshield wiper and those had no success at all. Most of them just opened the guard before I even grabbed the knee (final step) as I think they realized that the guard break was inevitable at that point. I am definitely sticking with this guard break. The toughest part is really the initial step to get the right leg up, but after that it is very effective. Thanks Aaron!

What a great video! In a nogi situation, would you recommend this technique to open the close guard? If so, what grips would you recommend? Thank you and greetings from Spain!!
@aaronbenzrihembjj60144 жыл бұрын
1c12 thanks! Yes I would definitely, it works well, but be aware that without the grip you will need to be careful with your posting hand (on the stomach or sternum). It will be easier to move. Sometime I keep a lower grip at the hip.

I would suggest controlling the arm on the side of whichever leg you're bringing up first to prevent them from getting the leg hooked and sweeping you. Do that and you don't need to worry about how far out the leg goes when you bring it up.

The further out you put your leg the weaker the break becomes. It's less about creating distance than the rotation of your body forcing their shin to swing outward so their ankles cannot stay connected. If you step far from their hip the point you turn around will not be over their body so their legs will have a much easier time following

Would you say it gets harder to break the guard when the person on their back is taller?

Great vid. What if I'm rolling with a stronger person and they have strong tight close guard?
@aaronbenzrihembjj60144 жыл бұрын
Peter Valdes it’s always worked for me, with a stronger person it can be more difficult to stand up though initially

Show me someone that has used this guard break in competition.

Did this once with a brazilian blue belt, didn't work, tried again, but before I even got the chance to stand I got triangled.
