I know the WRX isn’t a drag race car, but my god how far they have dropped off over the years, not only do they look horrible (sure after 3 years now it may have grown on people) but the performance is just as if not more horrendous, Subaru should just kill it off and stop embarassing their icon. The WRX use to be a supercar killer 20-25 years ago, a rally legend that kids of the 90s-early 2000s put up on their wall and dreamed of owning one, Subaru have tamed it so hard it’s just a family grocery getter with a bonnet scoop now that struggles to dust off a basic economy car and gets absolutely annihilated by every other sports car within its price range and even other rally cars such as the GR Yaris/Corolla, i30 N/i20 N put it to shame. Mitsubishi look like geniuses now not letting their Evo succumb to this low point, Subaru should’ve done the same instead of ruining the reputation of the WRX, it has become such a dud that targets families who want a everyday sedan rather than car enthusiasts.

Idk the VB WRX is faster than VA WRX in a straight line and around a circuit. VB WRX is neck and neck with VA WRX STI in a straight line. In fact, they both dyno about the same numbers. I don’t really see the VB as a downgrade at all performance-wise. Only people who haven’t driven both cars only waste their time writing up long statements like this.

What a waste to get a VB WRX with a CVT instead of the 6spd. I have a 2022 VB WRX MT, and with a simple Cobb Access Port V3 93 octane OTS tune, you can unlock quite a bit of the factory potential without a single bolt on (that said, I'm now running an E30 blend custom tune with quite a bit of bolt ons, and my WRX is now a legitimately quick little AWD car.)

I love the wrx and I know its not a fast car, but looking at the initial specs of all the cars, its obvious it would lose to the other two. Not only does it weigh around the same, but it makes less power and torque and to top it all off, they race it with a CVT. Wow I'm actually impressed by the S3 and I'm a B58/S58 owner. But those VW's typically have more torque than hp so not entirely unexpected. What I'm surprised by though is how bad the WRX did. I remember back in the early 2000's the WRX was kind of feared, it was seen as on the same level of a Z or something. Not so much anymore.

That S3 only had it because of it being Automatic vs Manual version of itself. Every time Sam hit the Clutch & Shifted Gears. That Audi pulled a head only on Gear Changes. I'd have done a harder launch & possibly use the Sport Mode to use the No Lift Shift feature in the Tegra. Not turning off the Traction Controls only kills the performance. Great video Sam!!💪

We have a 2022 Audi S3. Its acceleration is unbelievable for a 4 cylinder car. I would take my S3 over both these cars or an Elantra N any day of the week and twice on Sunday. It is a little more expensive than the three (Acura, Hyundai, Subaru), but it is worth every penny.

The manual is the slower WRX to 60 mph and the faster car to the 1/4 mile than the CVT WRX by a few 10th of a second. Sam setup the race where the Integra had 49 more horsepower and 330 lbs less weight than the WRX. Why wouldn’t it look like it only had 250 hp if Sam made the race unfair to begin with. 😂 Sprinter vs distance runner - who wins the sprint race? Not rocket science lol

1. A DCT or a good auto (not a CVT) will always beat a manual these days. 2. AWD, even HLDX will usually beat a FWD off the line - Honda, unlike VW/Audi, Hyundai and Toyota chose not to offer one as an option so they chose to lose the race. 3. The S3 that Sam used for this race is a previous generation (launched 5 years ago in 2020) 3 year old car. New model has 22 more hp and 15 lb-ft more torque as well as various modern performance enhancements including rear axle torque-vectoring system used on the hotter, faster RS3 sedan. So track race should also be a toss up between current S3 and current Acura. Truth is almost NO ONE takes these cars to tracks - any race that occurs is usually at an intersection when light turns green, on a freeway on ramp when two lanes are going to become one or on a freeway when both cars are traveling at about 60mph and then they both floor it. In those circumstances, new S3 with DCT will beat new Integra (or Honda) due to (if for no other reason) not having to lose time and power shifting gears.

Acura should’ve stuck with it, especially in roll race it’s 300 pounds lighter and has 15 more hp even with manual transmission because manual transmission doesn’t make too much different in roll racing compared to drag race

I have a 2023 s3 and i knew this would be the outcome. The s3 is definitely under rated when it comes to power the thing pulls like a v8 even on the highway its got way more than 306hp

Unsurprising results. WRX didn't seem to belong there at all. Strange that Subaru is making everything, even their sporty cars, with a CVT transmission. I wonder how much closer it would be between the Integra and Audi if both were DCT. Manual cannot compete with DCT in performance and proficiency.

Every shift by the manual causes a gap to open between it and the DCT. The manual transmission is just for fun factor these days is just an impediment.

@@SamCarLegion Your shifts sounded pretty quick to me, I don't think you left much in it. Type-s is lighter and has more power, supposedly. Type-r and Type-s always seem to underperform in drag races against their competitors. Maybe gear ratios just aren't ideal, I dunno. Did you expect to lose the roll?

I knew it was over for the WRX as soon as I saw the thumbnail lol. My brother has a 2022 WRX and after my truck got hit they gave me a rental, it was a 2023 Nissan Altima VC Turbo and I decided to race him for shits and giggles and low and behold from a dig they were pretty even WRX would pull from the dig but the Altima would reel him and they would finish pretty much right next to each other and from a roll well that was a different story from 40mph-140mph the Altima would leave the WRX by about a car length. Never would I have thought I would see the day that a Altima would be faster then a WRX lol

I'd rather have the Subaru. I love CVTs. PSYCH! No I don't. I don't do plastic cladding and no STI. Sorry, not sorry. My real pick is the S3. Oh, who am I kidding? As good as it may be, that's still not a car for me. It's still a bit too small and just like the CVT in the Subaru, I don't do automatics in any of my cars. For those who do, this car is for you. The real winner for me is the Integra Type S. Although it got beat because of the Quattro AWD in the S3, if the S3 didn't have AWD, the Integra Type S would've blown it out the water. In any event, the Integra Type S is my choice. Bigger car for tall people like me, better looking amongst the 3 to me and I only drive manual transmissions for life. Integra Type S > WRX > S3

AWD helps a lot on launch and with AT DCT less loss if gear change power loss the Audi will definitely win. But I will take the Integra MT for leisure weekend driving and knowing it has lower chance of being stolen. Oh, I didnt notice there was a third car in this race.

It's sad to see that Subaru have managed to become from the fastest and most interesting car to drive in the 2000s, to the slowest and most boring one nowadays. My completely stock 2001 Impreza WRX (non STi) with only 218 bhp did 1/4mile@14sec. back then, exactly the same with this one 24 years later. For example the S3 went from the initial 210 bhp in 1999 to 333 bhp in today's model... Even using the WRX name is an insult to Subaru's previous great cars!
