In July 2024, five Tamworth-based Aboriginal organisations signed a memorandum of understanding, agreeing to unite and stand together in a partnership called the Tamworth Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (TACCO).
TACCO's role is to consult and work with the community to improve health, education, housing and legal outcomes for Aboriginal people in Tamworth, in partnership with the NSW Government.
TACCO is comprised of:
· Tamworth Local Aboriginal Land Council (TALC)
· Tamworth Aboriginal Medical Service - Aboriginal Corporation (TAMS - AC)
· Tamworth Aboriginal Education Consultative Group
· Birrelee Multifunctional Aboriginal Children’s Service - Aboriginal Corporation
· Tamworth & Armidale Aboriginal Children’s Services (TAACS)
This is another step forward in getting traction on the Closing the Gap initiative and TACCO serves as a blueprint for other communities around NSW, if not Australia.
