I regret buying clothes with logos, clothes that don’t fit perfectly (aside from hemming trousers), and those dry cleaning only. Spending more for elevated basics you love is so worth it. If I can’t picture wearing something on repeat, it’s a no.

I luv my seamstress! Unless it's a custom couture piece, even high-end ready to wear needs to be tailored. Tailoring a piece to my body has me reaching for it more often, lowering the cost per wear😊

I also love neutrals and feel most comfortable in them and have a few times guilt-bought colours that are not for me because people said I wear too much black. Those things don’t get worn!

That has happened to me as well. I was shopping with a friend once and when I grabbed a taupe colored sweater, she said typical you. I ended up buying a rust sweater and I only wore it once and gave it away. 😕. Since then I learned to embrace neutral is my style and that’s ok ❤

I agree with your points, Eileen. I used to think I "needed" a new outfit for every occasion. I pared down my closet and, like you, went through the uncomfortable process of getting rid of perfectly good clothes that I bought for the wrong reasons. And life changes! I'm now semi-retired and don't need all the nice shoes etc., so again I'm revisiting what clothes best suit my new life.

Totally agree with you! Life changes so we should do our best to honour those seasons without being excessive xx

Yes .. basics with accessories. Nice shoes . Nice coats . The most important thing is to find your style. ( mine is French girl ..casual chic ..90’s ) I also found an app and I entered all of my clothes . Now I can use my iPad to try different combinations . It helped me increase my outfits 5x ( and it’s fun !) …it also helps me see what I do need . I use to buy without any idea how I would integrate each piece into what I already owned . That is my biggest regret . I had a lot of clothes with nothing to wear . Now everything can used in many different outfits. 😊

My weakness has always been beautiful high-end designer shoes. I carefully curated them by having only one exceptional item per style and carefully considered the colors, too. Fashion is ever-evolving, but, how many times have we cycled through chunky heels, skinny heels, round-toe, pointy-toe, knee-high boots, ankle-boots, etc? I was in my 30’s when I adopted this philosophy and the only shoes I consistently need to repurchase are sneakers used for exercising. 🌸🐝

I have the black Balmain shirt. My only designer logo piece actually. It got holes in it as well after a hand wash😮 Thought mine was defective it apparently it’s the bad quality. Even low cost brands with so called fast fashion don’t deteriorate as fast. I have items that have lasted me for years. I was so disappointed in that. No designer clothing for me anymore.

Sorry to hear that! It’s frustrating especially when they charge so much more xx

I just bought an IRO dress that I thought would be my birthday dress when I turn 40 this autumn. I haven't bought anything from this brand before, and before buying, I checked the measurements from the website carefully. I selected one size bigger than normally. It turned out the dress sat nicely on the hips but not at all on the upper part. In fact, it seemed like the upper part was a completely different size than the bottom. I soon returned the dress. I also thought that after my party where would I wear it next? There's really not many occasions for a dress like that. There's no point hanging dresses in your closet and hardly ever wear them.

Same with me . I agree with you 💯. I buy $4 cotton T-shirt from Walmart cuz I'm in the hair industry and it gets ruined frequently. So I don't feel bad about throwing it away if it is damaged or recycling it

Thank you for the excellent advice. I was wondering what brand your winter parka is? I’m in search of a good quality parka for the winter months.

The only tailoring I pay for is hem, and occasionallyl sleeve length. I will always do this because a quality item will still appear poorly on you if those critical lines are poorly placed, as well as less longevity if the pant or sleeve lengths invite more soiling and wear.

This was a very useful video. I sometimes regret purchasing clothes for my fantasy self. I am two years retired, but I still love to buy classic blazers and wool trousers for the autumn winter season even though it is only 4 months here in Scottsdale, AZ. I do give the clothes that I regret purchasing to my adult daughter who happens to like my taste of clothing and wears the same size.

I regret fantasy self/aesthetic clothes. Kawaii (which has gone out of style), coquette, etc. Especially since such items are high price for the design NOT for the quality.

I have a 4’9 height i prefer to go in my seamstress so its tailor to my height and body , and i bought my clothes in thrift store that cost from 4 to 30euro and the material is cotton, silk or linen 😇 . And trying to buy clothes or a dress that i can mix and match in many styles .And i dont like big logos in my clothes 🫢. Nice video

All these are good points but also really hard for myself when I was younger, simply because I was still trying to feel confident about my body and figure out my go-to styles. That is to say, all those I bought but ended up returning/donating/ selling were necessary expenses and experience for me to achieve these ultimate wardrobe goals 🥲
