It’s interesting to see the shift from “find your niche” to embracing the fact that humans are multi-faceted and accepting being a breadth-not-depth creator. The downfall of being a niche creator is sustainability - when I first tried to stick to only one thing, I found myself burnt out in just a few videos because I felt forced to create only specific type of vids. Some people love/excel at it, but I personally struggled with it the most and it therefore didn’t feel authentic to who I am. Now that I’ve diversified my videos, it organically helped with my motivation and creativity because now I just focus on creating content I WANT to make instead of what I “should” make. I felt this advice was so honest Jenn, you definitely are an OG I love and respect 🥰 thank you!

As someone whose ‘niche’ is book reviews, I’ve been alternating my content for a few years so that I don’t feel the need to read books all time and can go at my own pace. This has allowed me to focus on my own ‘series’ which have gone from holiday vlogs, tv binge watching, theatre vlogs (I’m an actor and singer), cover songs, theatre reviews etc. It also means I can do my day job and have a social life because I don’t want KZbin to be my life. It’s has also meant, because I read so much, that I now have a massive backlog of filmed but not edited book reviews than I can edit when I have the time or want to and can even go towards a Vlogmas type series (yes I have videos ready for Vlogmas in May 😂). My audience has started to grow a bit more since I’ve been mixing up the videos even more recently . This video from Jenn is so interesting and speaks to me so much at the moment. Don’t blame your audience when people aren’t watching but at the end of the day, make the videos you want to make and watch. As long as your happy, that’s all that really matters xx

I never realized why I have been loving Jenn’s content so much regardless what she puts out. I just very much enjoy her videos. Now she explained it, it makes sense. I unsubscribed from so many so called OG KZbinrs, I simply just lost interest in their stuff over time. I couldn’t explain why… Jenn is the only person I have been consistently following for the last 10 years 😊 It feels like I’m growing with Jenn!

I’m not interested in becoming a KZbinr but because it’s Jenn, I’m still going to watch this video. With that being said, everything about this video, all the tips and tricks, makes so much sense after witnessing your channel grow and evolve. Your tips are reasons why I’ve stopped watching lots of OG youtubers. Also, those apology videos or ones with the person just sitting and speaking to the camera… I have never gone more than two minutes watching those videos because although the person is being vulnerable, it’s boring plus whatever mistake they’re apologizing for, they know it’s going to be forgotten and they’ll go back to their old ways. As a human, we’re always growing and changing, so it makes sense how your channel did and didn’t stick to the graveyard trends. I’m so happy you’ve become a successful KZbinr, Jenn. And I know there’s still so much more for you to succeed in. Thank you for taking us through your journey!

Wow!! I've watched a lot of these 'youtube tips' videos over the years, and this is the first one in a while that I have felt gave real, genuine, and UNIQUE advice. You can really see why Jenn has been able to keep up such a strong channel over the years with her ability to analyze what has brought her own success and develop a sustainable way to make videos that gives her the ability to balance her personal life and stay interested in the craft.

I started KZbin earlier this year, and it is the best decision I ever made. I always made excuses like “What if I’m not good?” or “I don’t have fancy gear.” But I threw all of that aside and just started. In the back of my mind, I have the thought of just making something that I would want to watch. I don’t care what other people think. I don’t focus on the numbers. I just have fun.

"Don't be married to only make videos that perform well" Great advice! As a viewer I really get bored when a channel I'm subscribed to has the same video every single week. Tbh I don't watch a lot of your dedicated what I eat/cooking videos because I know I'm not gonna make the types if recipes you do but I'm still watching your other content because I like you. You putting out different types of content help keep a wider range of audience imo

From when I brainstormed ideas for my own social media series, to I recently started up one, Jenn has def been a role model and big inspiration to me along the way. It's quite encouraging to see her sharing all the helpful yet well-demonstrated examples and tips in her videos. I can see just how selfless she is, trying to be informative and audience-friendly. Then I realize, it doesn't only make her a promising KZbinr, but a part of a healthy, loving youtube community. Yes, it's not about algorithms, it's about creating, sharing, and staying together.

Quantity over quality is the key! I really appreciate to get to watch your content each Friday, it makes it so much more special when it's not expected every day. Now I get back home from work, I put on some comfy clothes, make some nice food and I know I can sit down and enjoy your content. Even for 11 minutes, the video has been very informative. I wanted to say that after giving birth you seems so much more relaxed about who you are, you seem even more authentic. Have a good one, Jenn! xx

I’ve found you on KZbin in my late teens and now, in my late 20s, it’s been so interesting to watch your journey and I love the many ways you’ve branched out! I started my KZbin channel of our home renovation last year and my biggest fear was that once the house was done my audience would be done too. But I’ve learnt the importance is just being yourself and lean into the many areas that interest you and see what sticks. And also - not every video has to be a hit! Rather make content that you love than content that doesn’t fulfil you but gets the numbers - no point having a niche that you’re over in a couple of months!

Hi Jenn, just wanted to say thank you for making this video! I first started following you when you used to film KZbin videos with Sarah! I was literally obsessed with how amazing your style was, and I still am. You inspired my sister and I to go to our local thrift stores and buy clothes there, prior to that we were too ashamed to even step foot in one! Lol, crazy to think that was 10 years ago!! I first met you in person in the Davis when you had your first clothing sale, where you sold your old clothes. I believe you were still a student then but I remember I had my phone out and you said “wow that’s a really big phone, I love it!” And man I was so star strucked by you I was speechless. Just wanna say I basically grew up watching you, I’m 27 now married with kids and here I am still a fan of yours. You’re amazing Jenn Im, I’ll always keep on supporting you!

I love this Jenn. I've been trying out KZbin for a while and being passionate about many things, which like you, recently included motherhood, it has been so hard to find a niche. I'm gently growing and I know I can narrow on a niche as my most popular videos are on my eczema natural healing journey but I know going in on that will "dry me out" in terms of creativity. So, I will just enjoy creating everything in series for now. Thanks for sharing your experience :)

I’ve watched so many of these types of videos of tips for KZbin and this has honestly been the most honest, helpful, and straightforward one yet!

I started wachting you soo so long ago when you still were filming with a friend of yours as a duo. Stayed and always loved your content. Especially your fashion style and inspiration. All the best for you Jenn 💛

Such a nice and timely video!!! You were the very first vlogger i followed and watched ever since i moved to another country and live away from my family. Watched you everytime i needed advice or just to inspire me... And now a late bloomer like me who slowly building confidence in the journey of sef-love at age 30.... opened up a youtube channel. Not easy with a full time job and still figuring out how to balance and create but I love it everytime I am able to finish a video and upload. THIS VIDEO INSPIRED ME AGAIN TO KEEP CONTINUING!!!! THANK YOU JENN FOR MAKING A VIDEO LIKE THIS!!!! I FELT EXCITEMENT IN MAKING CONTENTS ABOUT MY LIFE OR ME OR WHAT I HAVE BEEN DOING.... GAHHH YOU ARE JUST AN INSPIRATION!!! ❤ THANK YOU!

Thank you so much for this! I’ve had a channel for over 2 years and it definitely hasn’t grown how I’ve wanted, and I do think now after seeing this and other similar KZbin tip videos, it’s because I’ve only stuck to one subject. So thank you for the advice! ✨

Thank you so much Jenn for making this video. This really helps now that times have changed and things are not the way they used to be. I’ve always been struggling with making KZbin videos because they take longer to edit and I would spend hours to upload a 10 minute video. But now that I’ve watched this, I think I’m going to start editing after my dinner tonight 😅 Thanks again Jenn for your advices and tips!💖💖

Love the lifestyle > niche concept! I felt so confined when focusing on just one niche because there are so many aspects to me and my life so I’m glad you said this. Really appreciate all these great tips and definitely going to reference this video as I go through my KZbin journey ❤️
