1. Details should be be sized down - go for smaller details/prints/patterns/ruffles 2. Avoid undefined neckline and shoulders - go for more fitted tops 3. Avoid long & flowing sillhoettes - seperates suits petite better (if you still want to wear it you could go for something that has some kind of in between break) 4. Avoid visual weight at the hem - try to bring up the visual weight as much as possible; shorter shoulder bags can help; 5. Avoid heavy fabric without drape 6. Avoid overly angular details if you have softer features

Great tips Helen. As a petite person I really appreciate that you are not trying to make someone look taller. I'm fine with being petite but for some reason people can assume you want to look taller😬 Agree about the voluminous clothing can be overwhelming. However I think the collar size helps if it's smaller. I like the drape of a big shirt but keeping the collar small and cuffs folded up. Another way is a body Con dress with a scoop neck with a shirt over with a crossbody bag. You give so much information and detail and I really enjoy that. You give me great ideas!! ❤❤❤

I think oversized voluminous pieces work perfectly when combined with small collars and details. One of my favourite ways to wear oversized 😍

I am petite, 5’4” and love it! I never have desire to be taller. I love cute and feminine details on clothing. They go perfectly with petite and slender frame. I can do decent sewing and can shorten or take in clothes when they are not specifically designed for petite. It started as necessity, has evolved to be a hobby.

As a 5' person, long skirts do suit me, also maxi dresses, the only factor to fix is the length of such. And I've noticed that you're right, tops that define shoulders and neck make such a difference. As well as longer skirts on the flowy side frame my shape better, and if it's shorts or shorter skirts, if they're less busy (less ruffles imo) it looks way better

I love the video! I also agree with the suggestion of picking the correct tshirt that fits a person. I just have to disagree with the avoidance of long flowy dresses/skirt with details on the bottom/ balloon hem dress as a petite. I think these types of pieces can work depending on the styling. We can wear pieces on the upper half of the body that can ballance out the volume on the bottom (like a statement earring, or statement necklace, or cropped jacket). Rather than avoid pieces of clothing, it would be a much progressive practice to learn styling them correctly.

I’m five feet nothing. Anything with too much fabric just doesn’t work for me at all. I love long dresses too but I think it’s all about proportion. The one thing that really doesn’t work at all are wide pants everyone is wearing. The “width” of the wide leg needs to be proportional to my size.

As a curvy petite/dramatic romantic I find large prints look nice on me if the colors are few or neutral. Small patterns and details look best on me in rich and bold colors, otherwise they age me or drain my look.

I think the separate tip is more applicable to you/your style and your personal color (sounds weird, I know) than to petite in general. I’m also petite (5’2, 90lbs, with small frame), and separation doesn’t work for me as well as no separation. I actually look more drown in separate outfit. My guess is that the separation adds more contrast to my lack-of-contrast image, which makes it less flattering, whereas the more delicate an outfit is the more flattering I look, coming from a summer light. I remember you were typed as an autumn, which means you can tolerate/need contrast, and thus explain why separation works better for you.

I’m petite, too, but can’t wear high heels (3-inch or higher) or pointed toes. I love wearing mid-heels (2 to 2.75-inch), especially block ones and square toes. For the first time in my life, there are many chic shoes available with this heel height, it’s wonderful. I suffered a lot during my career, because there was absolutely nothing between a complete, ugly flat and 3-inch and up stiletto heels, that was appropriate for my conservative office. My Sezane Paula Babies are my favorites, if they ever re-stock them in Navy and Purple (really a burgundy), I will have all I need. Well, a forest or Kelly green would be beautiful, and I’d get plenty of wear out of them, too!

I worked at Macys in the early 80s and sat next to an Asian coworker in the locker room who said she thought high heels made you look shorter, and I never forgot it. If you wear 3” heels and are still short it looks like a little girl in moms shoes. No problem to be small.

Fabrique doesn’t specifically say on its site that it’s natural-fabrics only, but I searched for polyester and acrylic and nothing came up - an excellent sign. I forget to look for nylon and acetate - more NOs for me. Lyocell/rayon/viscose, in good thick, quality versions, are ok for me - it’s the plastics to which I’m allergic. This is becoming more and more common. It’s caused by repeated exposure to plastics or plasticizers (phthalates maybe?) and my generation, born 1960, is the first to spend a lifetime wearing plastic clothes and having plastic in everything in our environments. My skin finally had enough, as is happening with many other people. I get a double-hit now that I get hot flashes, too, plastic fabrics aren’t breathable. All that “tech, breathable, flow-through” stuff is just advertising nonsense. There is no such thing as “breathable plastic”.

I’m 5’4” or 164 cm, the average height of my fellow American women, but most brands are designed for fit women that are 5‘9” to 6-feet tall. The dropped shoulder-seam trend is disastrous for us petites. I keep seeing so many tops and sweaters I love except for that one detail, it really ruins the look. I’m not only short, but like many petites, have a very narrow frame, especially in the hips and shoulders. I’ve stopped shopping brands designed in Scandinavia, like H&M (designed in Sweden) and British brands like Reiss. It’s not just the ridiculously long overall length, and trouser/skirt/dress length, I don’t want those enormous necklines and shoulders! Blazers are a big problem, I agree - the shoulders never fit. I do better with Chinese, Spanish and Italian designed brands. I can only size down to a medium, because of my bust (34D) and waist size, but my hip/shoulder width is more like an XS. I could lose more weight, but it doesn’t help that much, and I’m am a good, slender healthy weight (125 lbs.) already, the torso just stores more body fat after menopause and there’s no such thing as spot, selective or targeted size reduction in certain areas (short of major surgery). Great petite tips, thank you Helen, I wish I still had your slim, youthful torso! Enjoy it every day, it doesn’t last forever! (Even if one doesn’t gain weight, the torso thickens because the body stores fat differently in mid-life, even on men).❤

I’m 4’11. I never buy from Cos or Scandinavian labels because they are catered to taller women . My wardrobe is 50% Sezane and 50% Zara + H&M and thrifted clothes. Shoes wise I go for European made shoes / brand because I currently live in NZ and they don’t cater to petites. Jeans is a big struggle but I love Levi’s or vintage Levi’s (just need to hem) . Sometimes, I check the kids section cuz they do Mum and daughter ootds so you can get the smaller version of an item (ex. H&M and Zara) but now they raised the prices for Zara kids so I buy from women’s now 😂

I have about 12 designer (everyday) *yutulu* bags + 3 *yutulu* clutches. I still have some bags on my wishlist, but my idea is not to build a huge collection, ever. I have also sold some bags that I no longer use. The selling process is not always easy and can take a lot of time. That's one reason why I consider long and hard before I buy something new.
