Listen to this man. I just got my first cloud support analyst job. No SaaS experience but a bit of coding knowledge and how cloud architect functions. Helped that I had knowledge now working on certs to help me move up to a engineer role by end of year. Most important thing put yourself out there network with people doing the hiring. Ask to linkup with them to prepare elevator pitch. Good luck learners and fellow techies.

The difference between the cyber degree and the cloud computing degree at wgu is 3-4 classes. I'm actually starting the cloud computing because I have a background in operational systems engineering, but I'm paying for an extra semester and taking the cyber degree as well.

I was stuck between Cybersecurity, Networking and Cloud. I'm going to go the cloud route as my current employer (MSFT Partner) gives unlimited? free Microsoft Azure exam vouchers. Hoping to knock out most of the certs and transfer credits before transferring into WGU to complete the Cloud degree. It is definitely possible to get a good IT job without any degree and a few certs.

I think this is the best possible plan in your situation and is exactly what I would do. I'm a big fan of Azure and their certs are appealing, and they are free?! Amazing. Best of luck!

I wonder this too. Seems like people end up going into random IT roles waiting to get enough experience, to transfer into Cybersecurity. Getting a degree to work for $50k/year, in a role that isn't consistent with your degree, feels like such a shame. 😞

@mxleuphoria513011 ай бұрын
I do have the opportunity to go pursue a bachelors degree, researching it seems since cloud is somewhat newer theres no specific cloud engineering degree at this time, I’d still like to complete a degree tho what would you recommend being the best degree to pursue if cloud is my end goal? Computer science? Software engineering? Or general IT?

Mmmm honestly was thinking about cybersecurity analyst but might be tempted to cloud if it has a lower threshold to get in than cybersecurity. But now I gotta invest resources into learning cloud since I barely know anything technical about it. Guess I could learn both at the same time but would be challenging

Now the follow up question. Azure or AWS first for those starting out; which is "easier" to learn and work with? 🤔
@TheGuy3-D Жыл бұрын
Late, but I'd probably say Azure. I work for a pretty loose IT team, so I can access almost anything, and I've yet to touch the AWS we're moving to. I have though, played with our Azure admin portal, and found it very useful since we're in a Windows environment.

Very helpful video sir👍🏽 I just recently decided to pursue cloud after changing my major in community college a couple times. I have a question are degrees required for cloud or can I get a job with certifications and experience? I do not want to transfer to a university to save time and money on a bachelor’s so I would rather just get certified
@JoshMadakor Жыл бұрын
Experience > Skill > Certs & Degrees, if I had to say order them. in reality though, it really depends on who is looking at your resume/portfolio/etc. In the most simple form, all you need to get hired is: a) Some skills b) The ability to convey those skills properly :)

Hello Josh, Do you think working in networking for few years can help you succeed better in the cloud computing environment?
@JoshMadakor2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely it can help, though I don't think it needs to be a few years. My wife simply got CCNA and worked in help desk for 6 months, then started doing cloud support engineering at MS for 114k base (not counting bonus, etc).

Good info, but l see a problem with the person who asked the question's way of thinking. A lot of people who are trying to break into cybersecurity from other industries want the shortest and easiest path, they don't want to put in the work it takes to become an expert at something. Neither cybersecurity nor cloud computing are entry level, it takes time and effort to get there, and I'm positive that the majority of these people don't even have fundamental knowledge of computers, let alone networking. I've seen it all over the comments sections of these types if videos.

Hey Josh. Would you recommend WGU for somebody like me who recently came out of high school and has very little experience in IT? If not, which college would you recommend? Thanks!
@JoshMadakor2 жыл бұрын
Hey again blackswan! it depends on if you want the college experience or not! Check out this short video: kzbin.infooinlLA0t3RM I might recommend going to a community college in a metro area for a year or two if you want the social experience. But if you don't care, WGU (or a similar school like TESU) is probably the best option in terms of cost/quality :)
@blackswan75682 жыл бұрын
@@JoshMadakor Thanks again for the advice! I'm currently going to a community college and will finish up this spring. After that, it looks like I'll have to make my decision on which matters to me more: a university experience or a fast degree. I'll be sure to check out TESU as well😉

Hey Josh. I’m stuck. I have been pursuing Cybersecurity since last October. I did a 5 month cybersecurity bootcamp and then enrolled in WGU for the BSCSIA with about 10 transfer credits. So far I finished 32 CU’s (not including transfer) and have my A+, Sec+ and ITIL v4. I landed an IT Security Analyst job and will now be working in cyber without the degree. I want to finish my degree as my GI Bill pays for it but I’m on the fence of changing to the IT degree because it’s faster and then doing my Masters in the Cybersecurity and Information Assurance. What would you recommend now that I’m working in cyber? Do I finish the BSCSIA or change to IT and then do MSCSIA?
@JoshMadakor2 жыл бұрын
Congrats on the job, that's great!! I would honestly change to IT General then get the Masters lol. Like you said, you already got the job, which is definitely the hardest part. Great thinking on that by the way, and congrats again ^^
@jarredhampton1692 жыл бұрын
@@JoshMadakor Thanks for responding Josh! This was the number one insight I was looking for. Now here’s the thing, even though I’m now in the field, do you think the BSCSIA is the better route due to relevance / cert stack or is IT General + MSCSIA a better combo to diversify myself? I think the end goal is management up to CISO as I have a background in management as well.
@jarredhampton1692 жыл бұрын
