For all the people who are trashing on Katy's performance, it's her song... the original has really high belts, and katy sang it like it was meant to be sung- with power. Kacey doesn't have Katy's range or power so she stayed in one octave but still sounded great. For me Kacey's rendering made firework a depressing song, while Katy's kept its empowering theme. Firework jumps 2 and a half octaves in a single prechorus and reaches a high belt for the chorus and flips to falsetto in the verses, it has cartwheels of dynamics that frankly only katy can sing.

mighty joe young I didn’t say they sound alike? I used the word “like” as in a form of expression. That they don’t look or sound “like” they are on the same page. The performance was extremely rough like they were not meant to be singing together, bc they don’t mesh like other crossroads entertainers do. Like Haulsey and Kelsea, they took their two different genres and merged them into one and looked like they were having a great time doing it and were natural at it. It doesn’t even seem like Katy wanted Kelsey to be singing the song with her, she took most of the vocals, yes it her song but there were many awkward moments between the two and Katy didn’t seem like she wanted to be the only one really singing it, which defeats the purpose of crossroads. And yes, no duh, I know these are two different genres, that’s the whole point of crossroads! I don’t appreciate the fact that someone makes it this far by recording whole entire albums with more tracks than I can count and uses auto tune on every song bc they really can’t sing naturally without it.
