Possibly going to Froedtert Malt to fill up those hoppers. Cool to see the CNW and ADM markings, both companies long gone from Milwaukee now.

What's the nearest railroad crossing that can blow their horns.

The mechanical bell was dead, wasn't it.
@Brenton817 жыл бұрын
I don't know if it was dead or purposely disconnected. The mechanical bell used to be the only one at the crossing. The other signal used to just have a pinnacle until they stuck the electronic bell on it.

EM signals!! Yeah!! Are these still in service?? There ZERO of those crossing gates in Las Vegas and there's none of those on the east coast. Vegas had EM signals at various crossings and they've been replaced with Siemens, Safetran or Invensys Rail. Are these still in service?

They were still in service the last time I was up there. The Chicago & Northwestern along with the Milwaukee Road had many of these around here. Canadian Pacific has replaced all of the former Milwaukee Road signals in the past 15 years or so. Those crossings also got new detection equipment. Union Pacific still has a handful of these from the C&NW days left in service though. It seems like those still in service simply get replaced when they finally fail. It isn't uncommon to see a crossing with one pedestal signals and one of modern design.

It's a shame that Griswold bell died, I've noticed that they seem to last much longer than other mechanical bells, but I guess UP never did their routine maintinence to them...

Are those old Raco gates?
@Brenton819 жыл бұрын
+train gamer I would guess Safetran.

Brenton81 Are their Raco gates in the Racine area?
@Brenton819 жыл бұрын
+train gamer There are a few pedestal style gates left on the Kenosha Sub but I'm not sure if they're Raco. I would guess Safetran again since that's what the C&NW seemed to be using at the time.

Brenton81 Gotcha. I know High Street used to have them, and I think Hamilton, Prospect, and West still have them.

+train gamer Hamilton still has them. I believe one of them was recently replaced on Prospect and I think both are gone on West Street now. I know one of them was replaced a few years ago. Last time I was down Layard Avenue, there was still a pair in service. There used to be a lot more on the Kenosha Sub at one time.
