I have many Asian friends that are successful. Like her, most of them live with family even as adults. They don't fall into western idea that you have to waste money to feel "independent". They are proud of their relationships with their families and their success is often a result of that.

This definitely works with a close-knit like minded family, which is a blessing. However, I do think it'll pose a challenge when the couple starts a family. Can imagine in that type of family, Sharon might end up with helping with childcare. I hope she would be fairly compensated and considered if so. For another brother to be involved...all of this can get complicated quick. Hope they have good contracts!

@@joeswanson733 Think of it this way. With the debt, I basically am working for free for the next few years to pay off the debt. Do you want to work a hard job for free for a few years? And then if you still have your passion you are 35 starting from scratch. Alot of my friends are doing the ten year forgiveness but then you can't make as much money because you are working in public health sites that don't pay as much. Everyone think doctors make money but if you ask them for their net worth at 35 I promise you its around zero, unless mommy and daddy paid for their schooling.

Assuming they put down 20 percent total this still leaves $600,000 that has to be paid off over 30 years the principal is already $1666 a month not factoring in interest. As krphan mention they put down only like 10 percent down payment but the principal shouldn't only still be around $1869/month (not incl interest)

Asian Americans men and woman have the highest median income, followed by White Americans, Hispanic Americans, African Americans, and Native Americans in the USA since 2017. She'll most likely run into problems in the future if she doesn't increase her saving amount beyond what she is currently saving. Especially in New York with overprice real estate market and food products. Her best option would have been to buy various homes in more affordable real estate state market states with affordable cost of living such as Iowa, Kansas or Ohio. Nevertheless, congratulation on her for even having the ability to buy a home though at her age.

Oh boi life situations can get nasty really quickly. People their age need privacy. What if she gets a long term partner and what if her brother has a kid? What if the house appreciates by 25% and one of the parties wants to sell their portion and the other wants to stay in the home and they already paid over 40k out of pocket expenses. This just seems insanely risky and the mortage payments seems crazy high.
