Both sharks make their money back and then some with this royalty deal and the 10% stake. I'm not sure who gets the better end of this deal but I'm happy with the results.

Any time it's a royalty deal, it's a win for the shark. Because he/she will get paid per sale plus the shares from the equity deal. That's why it's always bad to consider royalties if your margins aren't that big and sales aren't that good yet.

Essentially, had it been a $1 royalty until the investment is returned, that money ($1) would come out of the profit from the direct sales of the product (400K units). After they sell 400K units with a $400K return off the $1 royalty, they will continue to make money of the company's gross profit at a 10% equity stake. Instead they got a $1.50 royalty, so they'll recoup their money after about 267K units instead.
