Nice one James. I setup a similar thing a few weeks ago. I start most of my jobs from the centre origin, so have got multiple macros setup for each job. I’m making clocks of different diameters at the moment, (ie 12 & 6 inches) so have a Macro labelled for each one that takes the machine through the homing process & then to the workpiece centre. Soooo much easier & faster to get started 😊

Clever with the macro bit, I like that you can shut it off and turn it back on.

This is great too because if your first toolpath for example needs a V bit and you use a touch probe you can't accurately set X and Y on a touch probe with a V bit. If you start your job in the same spot on this is very handy.

Nice video, but another way is to have the corner of the inside be your 0, 0 when you make the fixture and document what those coordinates are. But as a machinist that runs industrial equipment, I like your channel and have shared it with many people getting started.

Good job on this video.. I learned a thing or two.. Two things I would have done to make it more precise. 1: use some 6-8mm guide pins to precisely realign the jig if you should choose to run the machine without it. 2: use an edge finder to locate the origin..

Great video James, I’m looking at buying one of these machines (Vasto)and have an odd question! The StepCraft M series is able to carve at bench level or on a floor if the machine is placed on a floor, is this possible with the FOXALIEN Vasto particularly. Love your fixed position on this video, key for any cnc for ease of operation, in my view. Love the detailed explanation, thanks.
@JamesDeanDesigns2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the bed is already quite low but you can remove it and carve lower, you just may need to drop the spindle down further.

@@JamesDeanDesignshi James, what would you,suggest to be a replacement? The machine xyz default is useless, and the home button keep trying to run past its limit and misalign the y axis (I probably set up wrong so,how). This could be an elegant solution. I have a genmitsu 4030

In the interest of saving time, why not setup your home co-ordinates to be in the bottom left corner? Somehow I got this setup by default on my XL 4030. Since all my jobs start in the bottom left corner, the machine does not have to travel as far after it has been homed.
@JamesDeanDesigns Жыл бұрын
You certainly can do that. I just home to the back as I like to get the machine out of the way whilst I setup

Depending what definitions you follow they are either lever limit switches or roller lever limit switches.

When you cut the corner stop, your desired x0 y0 is just your cutter radius away from your tool path. No need to eyeball that location.

I really don't understand why you machined that fixture then basically threw away the datum position it could have given you in favour of "eye-balling" your work piece origin. All you've done is introduce un-necessary errors. A better and easier way would have been, in your CAM software, define the origin of the fixture to coincide with the origin of the work piece. That would have automatically given you X0, Y0 without any messing about. Generate the Gcode for the fixture and the work to use the same WCS and you don't need to do anything other than home your machine!
