I do think a lot of people do just treat it as a team sport and care more about beating the Democrats than they do about policy. The problem is the US voting system. Because only people with the most amounts of votes go to represent their state in parliament it is tactically unwise to vote for smaller parties, cause than you weaken the power of the stronger party more aligned with your views. In the US people vote for the lesser evil, not the person they like most. Also the reason why the presidential campaign is focused a lot more on making the other side seem less appealing, than trying to be more diplomatic with other parties that could become your coalition partners in the future. (tho granted there is still a lot of throwing dirt in democratic systems that don't overly favour a 2 party system)
@queent33432 ай бұрын
@@hamdepaf6686 The US doesn't have a parliament, it has a Congress with a House of Reps and a Senate. People don't vote for smaller parties because they don't always have a candidate. We currently have 4 indpendents in the Congress. Two ditched the Democratic party and the other two ran as independents and got voted in that way. And the primary system generally roots out the independents, so they don't often get to the big show. And it hasn't always been the case about who people vote for. Right now the ideology is so different on both sides that moderates don't exist. Up until 2016 most often the more moderate candidate wins. See a lot of dirt in the UK, just for a shorter amount of time because they limit the campaign time. And the vote of no confidence doesn't exist here so a candidate fulfills the entire term. So people are more careful about who they vote in. We also don't have a shadow cabinet waiting in to jump in fully formed.

Raising minimum wage won’t do schit without also putting price caps on basic necessities. Food, water, electricity, healthcare, HOUSING, and maybe even communication technology because how many jobs don’t need to you have phone and internet these days? The way the economy works in this country is if you earn 1 extra dime, they want that dime. Quality of life is put at the bottom of the list (which is the cause of many mental and physical health problems), and that needs to change.
@sumner2q2 ай бұрын
That is true but the way that you get around that is you have public built housing government housing that is at 30% of the household income would make housing go down really quick because you will have a constant consistent price for housing that would be cheaper than the housing market. This is one of the main things that Reagan went against when he decided to go after welfare Queens.

NPR radio said they investigated other countries around the world and most of them had a full retirement age of 61 years of age and the benefits most countries offered closely matched the recipients salary before they retired. Our retirement age is much higher and at best only replaces about 40% of our original wage, I don’t know how the people don’t take to the streets I really don’t. Bernie’s right rich folks have never had it so good and the rest of us are up against the wall. I think Dr. King said it best,,,what this country has is a very wonderful and lavish welfare system for the wealthy people and a very cold, painful harsh reality for the poor and the working class and the senior citizens. I guess my question is how long are the people going to accept this? A lot of folks go around telling you how wonderful Republicans are,,,well OK Republicans are your friends, and you sworn your allegiance to the Republicans/GOP but you still don’t have a single thing to show for it.

@@Iwonder2 all this crap it’s coming down on the people,,,, man I really just don’t get it. people will protest For people, places and things they really shouldn’t be protesting for,,, things that won’t do them a bit of good,,, but when it comes to their own good they’re like mindless cattle. back in the 80s things were a lot better for the people. It was easy to get on disability Social Security. It was easy to get on welfare and keep it without people trying to kick them off of it all the time ,,,there were workfare conditions/requirements, but they were easily skirted and there weren’t any term limits, as far as how long you could stay on welfare or disability,,,you could stay on it as long as you wanted to,,,prices were reasonable for gasoline, rent, booze, cigarettes, etc. you could afford to live. It was pretty easy to get on HUD or something along those lines,,, a person could do all right. now there’s nothing. they took everything away from the people.Back in the day a single mother with 3,4,5,6, ect.children didn’t exactly have everything in the world but she had a way to live. She didn’t have to resort to drugs and or prostitution. Way back then a single mother knew no matter what that she had that safety net in place to help her live a halfway decent life,,,, a check food stamps medical coverage and a lot of times help with rent through Metro or HUD housing,,,she would probably go on to eventually get trained and get a job and give back to the system later on in life when she got things straight,,,she had that safety net for as long as she needed it and it wasn’t just for single mothers it was for anyone everyone families single persons young or old didn’t matter. Now that’s all gone. We have a lot of homeless people lotta drug abuse lotta violence. Nobody has anything left to believe in anymore. They don’t have that peace of mind, knowing no matter what happens they’ll make it, that’s all gone now. People feel like they just got nothing to believe in and they’ve got nothing to lose,,,,I t’s not right but no one will come together for that. It’s insane. The wealthy people in this country have it all and the poor and the working class and the senior citizens have nothing.

This,; I cannot sustain an adequate living in my area ( New England) without aggressively working overtime. Living on my own is a high price to pay but I value my peace and quiet, needless to say working 70+ hours a week doesn't leave much time for town halls and taking to the streets to protest policies I disagree with. Except currently with the costs of child care and college, the average american family to comfortably raise a child would need to be making $56,000-$89,000 across the country. These arent figures of the low class and recent high school graduates. The median wage in this country is $57,000. Thats a problem dude.... The issue isnt just wages, its the combination of increased costs and wage stagnation. In prior generations you had several low cost options for child care. Today the average child care costs between $8,400-$22,000. In the last 40 years medical costs have increased 290% per person....... medical costs are now the largest contributor to personal bankruptcy and debt in american society. College has increased in cost by 180% per person in the last 40 years, while arguably providing less value proportional to careers today. These stats are not sustainable for country long term. How about we do something about it?
