You can say many things about Johnnie but the point remains that Johnnie ran circles around the prosecution. He was about the only trial lawyer of the day who could’ve spun the story he did and gotten the jury to believe it enough to vote NG. Many Simpson jurors said at the time and now that the question of “did he do it?” was much more difficult to answer than “did the prosecution prove he did?” That speaks to the job Johnnie did.

@@christophergargaro959 The media coverage made it so the AA on the jury would never convict OJ because they could NOT go home if they did.. The 2 whites on the jury are to blame. It should have been a hung jury, followed by a retrial.. Re-trial would have been his death sentence..

Say what you want.. Cochran was a genius! The way he could flip around a case was pretty remarkable. I don’t agree with the verdict, however Johnny was simply a mastermind. Unfortunately it’s not always about the facts. Ultimately the jurors are going to go by the story you are going to tell. That’s why Simpson got off the hook

Johnny Cochran had an extremely likable personality...Darden is more of a brooder, and not the type you'd really want to have a beer with. People underestimate how beneficial it is in almost anything you do to be likable and pleasant. I believe the ability to charm took Johnny a loooong way in this trial because some of the evidence could have garnered a conviction.

Chris Darden, a black man, rises to become a top lawyer in Los Angeles criminal justice system, and courageously takes on a $10m legal defense team in the trial of the century. He is a shining example of a black man's potential realized. The fact that so many black people dislike him so passionately is a symptom of the sickness their community suffers which prevents so many from realizing their great potential the way Mr. Darden has. Celebrate black achievement, don't tear it down.

How true.. even if you don't agree with him. Darden's intelligence, skill and achievements are undeniable. Plus, rather than earning lots of money as a defense lawyer.. he made less and worked harder working for the people. I didn't agree with Cochran. I think OJ did it, but Johnnie's skills allowed him to go free because the LAPD had a dodgy past and he brought that up. What any good defense attorney would've done.

What's wrong with Greta's mouth? Johnny was shocked to see Darden sitting at the Prosecution table (from Cochran's book). The "token" black man, brought in as a member of the Prosecution team to attempt to reach the majority black jury. Clark gave him Fuhrman as a witness. In Dardens book, he said Marica wouldn't even look him in the eye when she told him Furhman was his witness. Darden refused. Point blank, said no. Hmmmm, makes you wonder why? Recently, Darden said he realized that he was USED to take on the racist, and that Garcetti and Clark brought him in because he was BLACK. From Dardens own mouth.

I hate the way the black community treated him like garbage, yet supported Simpson - eventhough they knew he was guilty as hell - as a way to "get back at the white man." As a black man, I disagree. Darden may be a good man, but people are misplacing his “genuine” nature. He took it personally against Johnnie. He wanted to beat Johnnie, not convict OJ. That’s where he lost the case. Darden was incompetent, emotional, outmaneuvered, and seemed unorganized. Why the black community, myself included as a trial lawyer since 1996, don’t particularly care for Darden is how he acted AFTER the trial. I’m not from L.A., but as a black man, you CAN’T say the LAPD doesn’t have very questionable and proven tactics against black and brown people. The reasonable doubt was throughout this case due to the handling of every single piece of evidence. Darden even stated there isn’t racism in the LAPD anymore. His very own words. That can’t sit well with any black person. Darden continued to say similar things such as the LAPD doesn’t plant evidence, and things like that. The ONLY thing Darden admitted to was Fuhrman being a racist, but he doubled it up stating Furhman wouldn’t plant evidence.

@RobertJBarnes
@RobertJBarnes 8 жыл бұрын
Jacqueline Manning Don't be such a simpleton. The jury blew it. The only one drawing the inference that the jury was dumb because they were primarily black is you. The were dumb because there was no second set of footprints. It was pointed out to them that the "second set" were imprints in the concrete. But, they went along with Dr Lee's testimony anyway. We know this because of what they said after the trial. And whatever Fuhrman's views on blacks were that doesn't mean he took the glove from Brentwood, smeared it on the Bronco, and, then, hopped the fence to plant the glove. That was not remotely proven. It was suggested and then the jury bought it because of Fuhrman's racist attitude. That's a huge logical error. What if OJ, a rich man, had video surveillance at his home? Fuhrman might be a lot of things but he doesn't strike me as stupid. The timeline argument, which was the prevailing argument, would not work unless the glove at Simpson's place could be explained.

I used to think that Darden gave a weak performance in the trial and seemed to have lukewarm feelings or no dog in the fight at all and seemingly the late Vince Bugliosi made the same interpretations of Darden; Bugliosi saw Darden as sheepish and indifferent; failing to incite any emotion in the jury with his compromising style and seeming sympathy towards Simpson. I'm no longer sure if I believe that. I respect him but I also see him as a token black lawyer who was brought there to appease the black jury some of whom appeared to be burly and uneducated and unfit to serve in the jury but they were put there regardless and since intellectually unambitious people think in simple terms a black prosecutor could have helped sway the jury. I'm not saying that they (some of them) were dumb because they were black; they just did not bother to get bright black people to serve in the jury. This may sound harsh but you have to admit that confessing to wanting revenge for Rodney King or foolishness like that is just that...foolishness. So perhaps Darden did not suck as such; it's just that he tried to play a negotiator where he knew he could not go toe to toe with the defense in "charisma" but as a more content oriented low energy type lawyer he took on a softer style which could have appealed to some jurors. I can only assume that that was Mr. Darden's intention.

Darden looks like he hates Cochrane. I'm not getting the hate for Fred Goldman his son was slaughterted and a media circus ensued and race card was played it was like. Ron and Nicole to a degree were footnotes. I disagree about the gloves it was insane to have the defendant put the gloves on. I mean God if I'm the defendant u think I'm gonna say yup the gloves fit look. Of course he struggled etc. If the defense chose to put the gloves on the prosecution could have said that glove were covered in blood frozen out to do tests of course it shrinks.

Was is wrong with using the "Race Card", if it will help you become Victorious....I hear several people arguing that using the so called Race card is despicable, even though using the card to me reflects a great strategic move!! Is it illegal? No, but perhaps somewhat unethical.....if the card was illegal, I'm quite certain that Judge Ito would not allowed the use of the race card if it created an unfair advantage for the defence team...unlike I've noticed most comments that I've read, I found the judge ( Ito) to be really good Judge.

Johnnie crossed the line by bringing race into the trial, but it was those bastard jurors who let him walk free. They could have focused on the evidence and convicted Simpson, proved themselves the better people. Johnnie prosecuted the witnesses more than defend OJ, but the jurors let OJ go. They're more responsible than Johnnie for OJ's freedom.

I often wonder what Cochran would think of the Depp/Heard trial. Just wondering 🤔 Believe it or not, I think Cochran would've been the perfect lawyer for Johnny Depp, even though Camille Vasquez herself did a spectacular job. He would've torn Heard to shreds like Camille did. Begrudgingly, after what Cochran did, I'd go to a lawyer like him if I were innocent and there was evidence.
