Look at Ross Chapin, "Pocket Neighborhoods," a superb way of blending the privacy of your own small house and pretty garden, and the choice to engage with others when you feel like it. I have talked with some of my women friends, we are widows, and we realize that being alone so much is not good for us.....for anyone really. There are ways to do this to suit an individual and a small group.

I volunteer to correct the English subtitles. They are full of mistakes, which is a real pity. "The land gets scars" was a funny one though, because that's also true (meant was 'scarce')

I think she could have presented the subject and concept much better if she had presented it in her native tongue and had it translated via subtitles. It seemed like there were too many gaps in the dialogue while she was possibly translating or thinking of how to say something. Although I've read and watched presentations on Co-Housing and find the concept very favourable I wasn't able to take away much from her presentation to reinforce or add to that perception other than the basic definition/concept of the word.

IMO, in canada the biggest problem is that human beings have lost all their sense of community. this could be a solution for that, but with the COVID PLANdemic, somehow i doubt this would work at all.

And if i cannot find another house out in the country to move to soon i would prefer to walk into the woods and die of starvation than live with bunches of strangers......yeah no. thanks but no thanks........death is preferable......here in the USA people will lie/steal/attack you so again, yeah no.

you realize they're only strangers *because* of the fences and distance. Being connected to your neighbors builds social capital that can create shared resources and maintain safety.

You do know why the have fences right? Because people are rude and will take advantage if an opportunity is given. Conscious or not if it is possible people will intrude on other peoples private place and it can be a mental drain on them. So either way, with fences or not, it can have negative and posestive impact. I'm the type that would prefer the fence, get to know someone and alternatively remove it if I like them and we get along, with the option of putting it back up if that would be relevant again.

That's where communication comes in if someone bothers you you say it. Co-housing is alla about learning to live together again, learn to communicate non-violently, create a sense of community, have each others back. Of course the first rule of co-housing is you have to want it, and you're clearly not ready for it. As are a lot of people. This way of living isn't for everyone, it is not an easy way of living or a perfect way of living. It is more efficient, less resource consuming and more fulfilling than most ways of living tough. Kids get educated by the whole community you can do more with the garden than in a privatized garden and other advantages. Open up!

Desiron- do you live in cohousing? What you say in your comment is the ideal. Unfortunately the non violent communication breaks down. Cliques are formed. Many don’t use the conflict resolution teams. Fences are popular at cohousing bc privacy is part of the equation where front porches and common houses are where social interaction is encouraged. I lived it and found cohousers have just as many human problems as everyone else
