Self reliance in a COLLABORATIVE environment is the only way to survive. We have permaculture, veganism, solar panels, composting toilets or biogas toilets which produces gas for cooking. Love is the energy that keeps everything running so it's time to share it!

It is an awesome one off guide for saving money with your own electricity supply minus the hard work. Building sounds very dangerous to me that I was raised in a country that quickly turned into a concrete cemetery in the past 30 years (Italy). Converting existing buildings into self sustainable ones seems a much better prospect. However, you fail to face the biggest issues: Issue number 1 - this lifestyle is no longer sustainable and must be completely rethought. Issue number 2 - as long as there is money involved there will be corruption and people trying to take advantage of the situation. We urgently need to get rid of the debit and credit system which has brought us to this point and we definitely need to kiss the money system goodbye for good! If every person on this planet only took what they needed there wouldn't be any crisis nor poverty but abundance for all. There is enough for everybody's needs (animals and plants included) but not enough for everybody's greed (old Native American saying)!

I agree with you that as long as money is involved these type of projects will only get so far and will get corrupted eventually and ruined. That's why only in small pockets of already progressive countries and regions do we see developments like this. But, what do you mean "this lifestyle is no longer sustainable"? What lifestyle? The one most people currently live which is pretty disconnected and inefficient or the one presented here with self-sustainable eco-villages or neighbourhoods? One principle I really like that I take from this is localizing as much production of human needs (food, water, shelter, energy) and smart disposal or reuse of waste.

nice approach and surely realizable, maybe more difficult in cold regions. Of course, people still require money and need to work in the cities. But theoretically when a village grows and all kind of handicraftsmen are there such a village could be 100% self-sustaining

watipi greenhouses, soil barrels/GAHT systems, people even building their greenhouse to share a wall/heat space with their chicken coop...they have greenhouses that stay at 70F even when it gets freezing.

Trying to turn grassroots community-driven initiatives based on humane and ecological principles into a corporate venture is likely doomed to fail and will likely only be accessible to a rich elite enclave of customers who can put down the capital and guarantee returns.

the depiction of the livestock/ animal hold indicates they don't understand regenerative farming. it's not about apps and sensors, it's about understanding the landscape and mimicking nature with various methods that are management intensive, ie , using knowledge and skills, not computer apps. I think it would work from every angle except the fact that they aren't actually mimicking ecosystems, they are just feeding and reusing waste materials in another form of factory farm.

This only solves the problems of housing and food security for the wealthy. Which means, while this is wonderful for converting people who can already support themselves and want to move in for an insulated, idyllic life, it’s not helpful for the vast majority of humanity. As these are built, third world countries will continue to burn unrenewables and people will still starve. We need to solve food and housing for the botttom 50% using open-source, low-cost and low-tech engineering. We won’t get out of this crisis flying on our privileges.

Couldn't have said it better myself! That said, studying these elite models, what works and what doesn't, what's the foundational cost and what's the added "luxuries", can help us start piecing together these open source, affordable, grassroots solutions. No harm in learning from others! BUT ultimately, if we truly want to build grassroots permaculture communities, we'll need both business and agri/craft expertise...but the priority needs to always come back to providing real, sustainable, material, not simply speculative, value. And the best sources to look to for expertise are just that--the ctual experts and master craftsmen of these fields. For example: agri/permaculture experts, city planners, sustainability architects, farmers, wood/metalworkers, renewable energy/energy efficiency engineers, etc. When we realign our priorities, we can build an abundant future that heals the earth and ourselves!
