It depends, really. If you're charging $10 when people would expect to pay $15, raising the prices is probably a good idea. If you're selling something like figurines that don't have a lot of mass appeal but have very strong niche appeal, and you're trying to keep the price at around $20, you're doing it wrong. You're not doing much for the health of your business or industry by undercharging, and any shoddy moralizing that you might be doing will go out the window when you roll over and die after a tough year because your profit margins weren't optimal. Of course, when your problem is that your market just doesn't like your stuff very much, trying to get them to pay more will create a death spiral. My amateur opinion for a failing restaurant would be to shrink the menu so that you can have fresh ingredients without wasting money and make those items as good as you can get them. Lots of great restaurants have menus that can fit on a single page with large print. That might also help in shrinking the staff, depending on what you were doing before.
