Fantastic episode! One thing I think is worth discussing is the evolution of the riders. Now, I'm not saying Derek's motor is going to take a kid who's 15th at an area and have him win a regional. But we must remember that the times of ricky and james are over. There are kids who live at facilities train year-round and do not make Loretta's. That absolutely did not happen in those days ricky and james could've literally started backwards waited til everyone completed half a lap and still won. Now, are they special? of course, but the entire game has changed now. This is with any sport, we forget that at one point in time the greatest baseball player on earth was an obese alcoholic chain smoker. Would a carbon fiber bat allow babe ruth to hit home runs in the game today? No. Our sport has simply gotten better, which is great. My point to this is when moto parents who are searching for the absolute best it's because I believe there are fast kids everywhere now. There are legit 10 kids in every class now who could win a national and a lot of times its who gets to that first turn first. Which is why parents are chasing tenths of horsepower. I mean me firsthand, and this isn't tooting Derek's horn because he's the one in the video, but my kid definitely had better start on his motor than a stock motor that's a fact. With that being said, the biggest improvement has been to him physically as an athlete no doubt. All that being said, the point on the jetting is absolutely something I'm taking to the bank I must get better at that. Anyway, I believe you two are hands down the best in your fields and I will continue watching.

You are 100% spot on - completely different landscape in amateur racing and development! As I mentioned previously, I grew up on a 78' RM80 riding in the orange groves of Central Florida and being chased by the police. The facilities have changed the game (not always for the better unfortunately) and marginal gains are harder to come by. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment!

I was racing an off road series that was about 90 to 120 minutes long averaging 4 laps . Amazingly my fastest lap was always the last lap. Yes I got to know the trail but I was out of shape physically tired out and lugging the bike a gear high on the last lap and felt slower.
