Very true a thorough gentleman and an excellent coach. Those who have got coaching from him are very fortunate.

Been using this method for several weeks now and it has sorted - a club path that was too much from inside to out , width in whole swing, no flipping at impact, now with right hand under and assisted by trigger finger pressure point, Can swing to the left with chest - thanks all , appreciated.

Thanks for this one guys. I've been an A swinger since the book first came out and met David when I attended his facility in Orlando. I said excitedly, "David I've read your book 3 times", to which he smiled and with characteristic Leadbetter deadpan humour said "That's more than I've read it." What a great coach he is. I like that he has a general framework that (for me) has proven effective, but doesn't try to force every golfer into a rigid mold. It's such a simple swing that I have the confidence, as Jodi mentioned, to be able to fix myself out on the course when things start going wrong.
@1b0o07 жыл бұрын
LOL. He totally ruined Lydia Ko. His mold as rigid as it can be.
@ricardopassarelli60157 жыл бұрын
David is the first to say that the A swing is not for everyone. Lydia seemed to be at her best with David in terms of the number of tournaments she won. Not my definition of "ruined".
@1b0o07 жыл бұрын
What? She immediately started with Leadbetter after turning pro so there really isn't a way to compare Leadbetter with any other coaches. Leadbetter took a while to mess her up, the first 2 years were good since she is super talented. But the forced positions by the end of 2016 and 2017 ended with her fluid swing. Same that happened with Tiger and Foley.

Again I want to thank you guys. I have a big problem with balance in the swing. I always end up stepping forward with right foot after the follow through, can’t hold the pose after the shot. After watching this I thought I have the opposite problem she does. Started sitting back slightly and EVERYTHING feels better. Back swing feels better, can hold the follow through no problem. The whole swing feels smother and more natural. Wish I could afford a trip to UK and some lessons. Thanks again. Btw I’m 65yo and a novice. Goal is to break 100 consistently.

I have been playing for nearly 30 years and have been down to a 4 handicap. But over the years I have been struggling with a pull and a pull hook so as I was not enjoying the game anymore I stopped. I bought The A swing book about two years ago when it first came out. Went out on the range and thought OMG this is not for me! around 3 weeks ago I saw something on KZbin that struck a cord with me as I am one of these people that try study the golf swing. I have read lots of books particularly John Jacobs Practical Golf. In it he says that let the ball be your teacher so by seeing my straight pulls and pull hooks I realized that my clubface was aiming left as well as an out to in path which matched. With my pull hooks I was correcting to an inside path and a closed club face! Amateurs myself included suffer from our arms and bodies being out of sink and manipulating the club face with our hands. We also flip the club inside our hands and go back shallow which makes most of us come back too steep on the downswing. This causes 95% of us weekend warriors to slice and pull and wiff our way around leaving us in total frustration! OK long story short I had a light bulb moment when I reread the A swing as Leadbetter states that by going back steeper you will automatically come back shallower. This makes golf easier and a lot more fun. I used to blow hot and cold ..When my timing was on I could shoot under 80. But more often than not the next time was a lottery as I could then shoot anywhere between a 92 and 85! I was like a lot of people out there an anti Leadbetter proponent but after going to the range and working through the initial moves which will seem strange at first. I went out and shot a 72 and the next time a 78. I have never shot two consecutive rounds in the 70's so a total surprise. I am hitting the ball basically on a string most of the time with a little draw which I have never been able to do as well as at least two to three clubs longer and solid out of the middle of the club face. Please don't poo poo the A swing if you are battling for consistency like most of us give it a good go get the book..Commit to it for at least a good period of time. They say the definition of madness is "keep doing what you doing and you will keep getting what you getting" At least here one has a blue print and a direction. You may well just thank me in the long run:)

I purchased the book but have this dumb mentality of wanting instant gratification. You know take a pill and play perfect golf! You have given me reason to take pause and give this (what I consider to be a real solution) a better and more reasonable time to take effect. Thank you🙏

Superb example of how a very good player like Jodi Ewart Shadoff can be turned into a great player by swing guru David Leadbetter. Also exemplifies the work ethic of Jodi that enabled her to nearly win the LPGA Ricoh British Open. Hopefully, Jodi will win a major soon with her remodelled swing and Yorkshire grit...

WHEN PRACTICING IRONS SHOTS, WHICH IRON DO YOUR STUDENT USE?
@lucaspodolsky79827 жыл бұрын
7
@1Mannco7 жыл бұрын
You can start with wedges like a 56 degree, then 9, 8, 7, 6 iron. If you wanted one club, grab the 8, pick a target around 150 yards away and work on your alignment. Stand back 10 feet, pick a spot 1-2 feet in front of the ball and align it with your target. Walk up and at address, draw a imaginary line to that spot and align your feet parallel to it. Get an align stick too. Too many people get out the driver at the range and hack away. Practice more with an 8 iron.

Hi Andy and Peers, again good stuff! If I use the drill (halve way back, then start the swing) my clubhead speed increase about 7 mph (Iron 6). Is there a way to adapt that speed in a full swing?
@FitFast86 жыл бұрын
Why delay the rotation of the forearms in the back swing? Surely the smoothest and simplest swing is a progressive rotation to the end of back swing, on plane.
@emncaity5 жыл бұрын
Why? You wouldn't, necessarily. But if you have a habit of rotating too early, you're likely to go back too flat and then (probably) have that lift-and-over-the-top move. You'll run into yourself on the backswing. You can have too little rotation, or rotation at the wrong time, too. Just depends on player and habits.

Hey guys do you have any advice, I'm currently trying to change my swing, I'm 45 & I'm not the most athletic guy I've had 5 years out & my swing has become much shorter in the backswing & I come slightly over the top & tend to have bad shots that go straight left or slice, I've watched you vlog about exaggerated wrist turn & steep backswing, I'd love to see something I could work on to help me build a longer more full swing again & rid me of that slice.

It amazes me when these great golfers struggle to shape shots. Surely it’s an important skill to have.
@DanKingUSANA7 жыл бұрын
The most important thing at the top level is hitting it as straight as possible as often as possible. The reasons behind that are spin axis and how a spin axis other than 0 (perfectly horizontal) significantly affects your ability to hit the target in the wind. The best strikers (yes there are always exceptions, Rocco Mediate, Bubba) hit it with 'tour flight' and what that means is its dead straight, you will struggle to identify which way the ball is moving. Because it basically doesnt. Shot shaping is secondary to that. Some do some dont, thats why.
@Hammy1357 жыл бұрын
Dan King I was always under the impression that the majority of tour players favoured some sort of shape. Wether it would be a slight cut or draw. I don’t think it should be under estimated, especially when it comes to a tight dog leg under pressure. After all, tiger was always a master at it and he didn’t do too badly for it.
@DanKingUSANA7 жыл бұрын
Yeah i do know that. And i do love tiger. And Bubba. Makes for great viewing. Most do favour a certain shape (albeit a very small amount). But that doesnt make it right. Ive got friends aiming to get on tour who see Rory hit a draw and so they wanna hit a draw. Also think of it this way- Ideally your best shot is dead straight, and your miss is always a slight push fade. "one miss". Also there is a difference between 'best strikers' and 'best players'. There are not alot of holes where you have to play severe shape off the tee. And in these situations, straight guy is going to hit to the corner and play a longer shot into the green. Shape guy is going to go for it and take on more risk. Hitting shapes is a good skill, but not imperative to make a living on tour.
@meandmygolf.7 жыл бұрын
It is an important skill to have but what you will find is that most golfers tend to favour a curve therefor it is harder to shape it the other way.
@florianredecsy49975 жыл бұрын
Don’t wanna offend anyone, as leadbetter is probably a really nice guy and honestly wanna help player but you should rename the title into “How to destroy another great swing by David Leadbetter” Why... Easy... every good Ballstriker nowadays on the Tour has a clubface at the top in between parallel to the lead arm to facing nearly straight up. That’s what he showed what she had and referred it as shut. Thereafter he moved her into position he wants her to have and refers a clubface of 90 of the horizon (tip looking straight down to the earth) as square... luckily her natural instinct is fighting against as you can see in her swing... don’t tell me it is a feel... he is putting her in that position so she feels how it is supposed to be right... luckily more and more coaches in the world are really paying attention to what the best players in the world do... Leadbetter already destroyed Michelle Wie and Lydia Ko and i don’t wanna know how many more...

look at her swing at 9:54 -- the exact opposite of the "A" swing...her club goes back and then up instead of up and then back...it's a shame that David has compromised himself with this snake oil...he truly was the best in the late '80s and early '90s when several tour players he coached had their best years

@FitFast86 жыл бұрын
The 'kink' is a steep shaft (off plane)and closed club face at the top of the back swing. Also the 'Malaska move' at the start of the swing. Not what the top players do. I'm sure it's an improvement compared to her old swing but not what I'd change to.
