Coanda Screen from ELGIN and Langston Alternative Power

What is a Coanda screen? It is a special type of screen that cuts water and pulls it into a filter box. The debris is removed and sent down the creek while the water is separated and sent down a pipe. These type screens are amazing for micro hydro and irrigation. Do you have any solutions to prevent an off grid coanda from freezing up in cold climates? I have tried an insulated rigid foam box and still had freezing.

I am not sure yet. I just took measurements to install mine. I imagine this winter will have several tests.

Whoever made that Coanda screen, obviously does not understand the Coanda effect. The ribs in the screen are raised above the trailing edge of the preceding rib. That is why the screen is drawing the water NOT because it is taking advantage of the Coanda effect.

@@ToolsTechAndGear Yes, the slots. Also, do you have a formula for the optimum velocities for different slot sizes or doesn't it matter? I have been working on a 500 micron filter that is a bit different to a wedge wire profile. A 50 degree angle appears the optimum slope but slower moving water at the bottom is running off although the yield loss is small. I am wondering whether I should redesign with greater velocity.

They are very costly. I would have thought $300-$400 for SS. But over $1000 is a lot.

Seth save yourself a ton of money and just buy one of the leaft guards....

Leaft guards? Like a gutter with guard over that? I will need this box to hold up the coanda so it needs to be strong. Also this creek can have 400gpm in heavy rains.
