I used to catch eating crabs and lobsters off the rocks at Newbiggin by Sea in Northumberland. I carried old pantyhose and stuffed them in so they could not chew each others' claws off. Carried it like a scarf! I used a 4 foot metal hook called a clique made from copper rod with the end bent over and flattened. I could tell by the feel and sound where there was a crab under the submerged ledges in the deep tidal pools. Lobsters always needed a front and back entrance and we were lucky to have an old shipwrecked boiler at the end of the rocks which was full of tubes. I collected softshell crab which were often being protected by a hardshell crab. I also collected what we called pinnels which were hardshell crabs which were ready to molt. You would pinch off the end of a leg and see the new leg inside. The crabs were good bait for codling, which we wrapped in sheep's wool from the wire fences on the moors. I really enjoy your videos.... they bring back great memories. Thanks, Bryan

LOL....They are an acquired taste, as with any other marine species...urchin, blowfish, sea cucumber & seaweed, just to mention a few. Keep the videos coming & if you/your family ever decide to plan a trip to this side of the world, MAYBE you are able to connect w/some Hawaiian fishers, who can teach you about our Hawaiian sea creatures & methods!

They definitely are an acquired taste. Haha. I would truly love to visit the islands at some point but it is such a long journey for our young son. Maybe when he is older. 😊👍🏻

I absolutely love your videos. I like how you take your time to inform about every species you come across, that's really helpful and interesting to someone who has never seen an ocean in their life. A perfect mix of learning, cooking and humour. Thanks for such awesome content!

Good job little man for giving the lobster a go. My heart break a tiny bit seeing him eat chips and passing on fresh lobster hahaha. But he's happy doing his own thing... More for you John 🥰 p.s and No, you're right... It doesn't take much to make little people happy! Don't you wish it was that easy to be happy when you're older haha hmmmm 😒 friggin life!

Thanks Mate for officially making me hungry.LOL. I'm guessing it's starting to get cold there now. Here in Florida we are at about 75 degrees Fahrenheit. I wish it would stay this temperature most of the year LOL. Well until next time...CHEERS MATE !

James has grown so much since last video he was in. He has such wonderful manners to. I use to love playing with fire when I was a kid. I loved it so much that I nearly burnt down the house🙈😖. Loved the video as always John. I always learn so much from you

Haha. Most young boys have a run in with fire at some point. My brothers and I regularly had singed bits of hair and nearly burned the woods down. 🤣🔥
