Technically, the over-the-shoulder restraints on typical inverting coasters are only needed in the extremely rare case that a train stops while it's upside-down. If a coaster is designed properly, centripetal force will keep you in your seat through inversions, with the exception of the pre-lift inversions on coasters like Dorney Park's Hydra.
@hylje2 жыл бұрын
No inverting coaster relies on dynamic acceleration to pin you down to the seat safely. Lap bars and, apparently, lap belts will pin down passengers just as firmly in a static upside-down position as an over the shoulder restraint. Coasters do try to not valley you upside-down, but that’s mostly because of comfort and people having a bad time being stuck upside down while waiting for rescue.
@Heavens-Humanaterian-Army2 жыл бұрын

Trust me, this type of ride is a maintenance nightmare! Desmo race was supposed to open in 2019 however it didn’t operate until 2021 because of all the problems with the ride system. Nowdays the ride still doesn’t work properly, it stays closed most of the days and the days it’s open it runs just for a couple of hours and then it shuts down. That ride is a complete nightmare

looks nice as a way to combine a darkride with an coaster. @Danrarbc2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure that was accurate if winds are highish they avoid running it. Not so much for the coaster but for the comfort of those on the ride platform. I was actually on a sailing in Mardi Gras' first two months. When I was on board Carnival was actually running operations expansion testing. So they literally did test runs at night to test out the noise and vibration propagation to see if it'd interfere with most night activities and if people could tell it was running in their cabins. There was also a night later in the cruise where we were going to have to sail in to a storm. I like watching those so I went up to the lido deck at 2am only to find them actually running the coaster during the storm so they could see how it worked out in those conditions too.

How about this: instead of using a gearbox to drive the vehicles, there could be a contactless power system which would reduce the wear on a rack and pinion system at high speeds. How it would work is similar to a slot car racing track, with the power strip on the rails, and the vehicle having a set of power pickups. Where the accelerator crank on a motorcycle's handlebars would be, you instead use a dimmer switch that would change the sensitivity of the power pickups (higher sensitivity = higher speed), but there would be an always-on power limiter to prevent you from going too extreme with the sensitivity.

I rode the spike coaster in germany a bunch. The prototype one. The ride itself was not great. The car was vibrating a lot. Fairly shaky, too. I mean, this thing runs on cogs and teeth, so I would expect nothing less tbh. Throughput is also a major factor. While this has more capacity than the spike coasters (2 per car, 1 car per train) it still doesn't look very attractive to theme parks with a higher amount of guests. I don't want this to fail, don't get me wrong. While maurer coasters in my area are very intense but also fairly rough, I really love them. Especially the launching xcar model "freischütz".
