2:11 the 'rust' was actually hand painted on. when the ride first opened in 1994 the supports also featured this fake rust (similar to how some of FLY's supports look) but i think in either 2016 or 2017 they gave it a full repaint and only added fake rust to the track

If you haven't already, I would highly recommend John Wardly's auto biography. Most of Alton Tower's classic rides are all designed by him, he was a genius and one of my heroes. He came from a background in theatre and dark rides, which is why all his rides are so dynamic both layout and theming wise

Nemesis Reborn is awesome during the day but at Night is when this ride really shines it comes alive the waterfalls glow red and there is lighting everywhere including a blue light that flashes when passes over the vertical loop. This is hands down a top 10 night ride. Best opportunity for a night ride is Alton After Dark March, Scarefest October and Fireworks November

I've never understood how Nemesis manages to build so much speed on such a small first drop. On the back row, the move from the drop to that first corkscrew is absolutely insane. Even with Hyperia, Nemesis Reborn is still my favourite UK coaster.
@drdewott9154Ай бұрын
My best guess is simply the tightness of the elements, both that corkscrew and the following turn are extremely tight even by B&M standards. The fact it's inverted might help since much of the weight sits higher and therefore when the track is upside down in the corkscrew it sits lower. I'd assume it probably makes it easier to clear the element that way than if the same layout had been attempted with a conventional non-inverted design.
@reputation8383Ай бұрын
@drdewott9154 that's a great explanation, thank you!

I asked my new GF if she liked rollercoasters and said that she has only ever been on one and it made her really dizzy. I asked which one it was and alas I smiled when she said it was the one where your legs hang at Alton Towers. At least she's been on one of the most legendary rollercoasters 😅 That helix is SO epic when you first experience it. The ride just feels like it's constantly picking up speed which makes it so cool.

I’m guessing that 104-foot "drop" is just the height difference between the crest of the lift hill and the base of the vertical loop. I’m so glad Alton Towers decided to keep Nemesis alive. It’s such a brilliant and inspired attraction (and I’m also very partial toward old-school B&M inverts, hehe).

Rode for the first time on a chilly grey day in late September and didn’t detect a rattle at all. I found it extremely smooth and all together thrilling. Definitely a front row ride and yes the back row right seat works best for experiencing the forces. Because of the inverted seats I find these types of coasters work best on the near misses and this one is incredible in that regard. Theming isn’t always important to me but it makes a huge difference here. I loved this ride.

Agree on all points, it's such a great ride and the theming brings it all together. It felt unreal and seeing all the actors run around I was also thinking "how long is this going to last?". I also notice the slight jolt into the brake run but it really wasn't a big deal to me. Most of the old B&M's that are smoother do this as well and I had just assumed it was a matter of me getting older and nitpicking.

Nemesis was the coaster that made me an enthusiast; it was my first B&M coaster, first coaster with inversions and is still in my top 10. Theming wise I kinda liked the more rustic, apocalyptic feel of Forbidden Valley compared to the new military base feel but I haven't seen it in person yet, I last rode it in 2019, so seeing it in person I might like it more, I just felt the old theming blended in with the surrounding nature more which gave it a sort of Chernobyl vibe, I think it could fit in with the story though; that what was once an abandoned area had been taken over by the Phalanx and turned into a containment base which involved replacing all the old infrastructure
@stevebrown1974Ай бұрын
It's not too bad in person, I think the change is quite subtle in some ways. Basically apart from the helicopter where the mining tool thing was on the mound, everything that was rustic brown has just been painted black and a few dark red tentacles now hug some of the rocks that are around the area. It doesn't feel military at all.

Speaking on the smoothness, I can see where you came from compared to 2018, however having rode nemesis in the late 21/22 season before it closed, I personally felt it was getting a little rough, especially on the back row where it felt like you were really getting flung around the train/restraint itself rather than around the ride layout. I think the decision to effectively rebuild nemesis by Alton Towers was the best choice for the park, they could have closed the ride down but instead have preserved, and improved the experience for generations to come; I can only hope that other parks can spare some of their iconic attractions in such a manner.

I am disappointed that new B&M coasters aren’t as glass smooth as they used to be (no clue what has changed for there to be a rattle/shaking🙁🤷♀️). Nemesis is in my top three favourite coasters ever. I really hope I will still love this new track and enjoy the whole experience like every time I’ve ridden it before. I’m so happy you loved both iterations of Nemesis ☺️. I’d be upset if you didn’t like it. Yes, other parks around the world should take note of what can be done to a ride or attraction. Revamp or repair older rides instead of replacing them. It’s a shame you didn’t visit the uk 🇬🇧 sooner (your first visit should have been between 2005 and 2010). I’m now wondering what Merlin will do with its sister coaster Nemesis Inferno 😰it’s not that much younger so it might need new track soon. If that ride was just demolished, I’d be heartbroken 💔😢(my top three favourites are nemesis, nemesis inferno and duelling dragons). I love B&Ms💖.

I wouldn’t be too surprised if Batman at SFGAm were to be considered for a retrack. It always seems to have over an hour line (even though it is 33 years old) and the public sees it as a classic (much more than the others). The biggest problem would be the cost.

I haven't ridden Nemesis Reborn but it looks fun. However, I am worried about the trend of low to the ground coasters. It seems that tall lifthills are becoming a rarity these days with the popularity of launch coasters and the increasing number of parks with height restrictions.

This layout is over 30 years old and it was built in a park that can't build above the tree line due to being on protected land And besides, this park's sister park just opened the UK's tallest roller coaster the same year this rework happened so I shouldn't be too worried

it does have magnetic brakes now but 3 train ops wouldn't work because of how short the layout is and they regularly stack trains with 2 trains
@joecandish3923Ай бұрын
1. Is integrated into the design so you would have to alter the layout not to mention it could cause more speed resulting in more wear and tear on track with the profiling not designed for more stress. 2. Old Brake Run has been replaced by a Magnetic Brake and not enough room for a block section nor 3rd Train and already has a high capacity, plus most 3 train operated Inverts have stacking. 3. Nemesis Sub Terra is great stand alone attraction its a filler ride so takes queues away from the main rides, and is too far away from the main nemesis as there is a service road in between.
