In this video I review the Cobra ACXT1035R Tacticool Floating FRS Walkie Talkie Radio. The Cobra ACXT1035R is relatively low-cost water-proof and floating adventure radio designed for use around water. I go over the features of the this Cobra walkie-talkie radio as well as some of the weaknesses of the radio and I compare it to a similar adventure-radio, the Rocky Talkie FRS Mountain Radio.

My first real radio was the infamous Cobra 29. Those were exciting times. Only 23 CB channels back then. I still see Cobra 29XLT models for sale at the truck stops when I'm out exploring in my RV. Glad to see they are moving into FRS/GMRS

@@craigdavidson2977 My first CB was a Cobra 138GTL AM/SSB 23ch. Still have it. I’d use it as a boat anchor if I had a boat. My father gave it to me for the road trips between home in Ga and Ft.Campbell Ky. It was my gateway drug into ham radio. Now I’m just a “sad ham” who Mr.Randy convinced me in his videos that I was actually talking to “strange men”😆 Never thought of it that way before I found this channel. Still trying to convince myself to get a GMRS license.

Thanks for that. Having a really really bad day, and that last "help me!" Gave me such a huge laugh. I really needed that. I’m far far away from being an expert on radios….largely because I don’t care. I just want to push a button and talk. Along with some higher quality radios I have, I also have a pair of those Midland FRS radios, similar to these. When I’m preparing the campsite, or on the lake fishing, or whatever, my wife can pick up hers and get ahold of me with ease. That’s what I need it for, and it does the job. Plus if it falls in the fire, I don’t really care too much (once the batteries have finished exploding). So "some people" can go F themselves. The camo color is so ridiculous on outdoor equipment btw. Why would you want any of your gear to disappear the second you put it in the ground? 😀

I have had the older model for many years. Only difference is it now has usb-c with charging port on radio. You are correct about the battery cover. Can be very tight to provide water resistance. It’s a great FRS radio.

oops still with Micro USB. I miss read. Note; rechargeable AA's included are only 1000mAh's. Higher value easily obtained on Amazon i.e 2500 mAh's.

Just a FYI. The battery compartment is very tight. Some different rechargeable batteries such as Duracell Rechargeable do not fit but regular Duracell's do. Just 0.01 difference in width makes a difference. I use Energizer Lithium with good results.

I have a set or orange Cobra radios for many years now for riding Seadoo’s. I like the call alert feature so when riding I can ring the other people and hope they hear it while riding. I have talked around 3 miles clearly with mine on TN river. Mine is an older version and does not have the what did you say feature. Although mine are still working great I might buy a new set to have that capability.

I owned 3 sets of cobra radio. 1st broke within a year One of the radios stop receiving. 2nd set, the speaker went bad within 8 month. The 3rd I lost one of the radio after just over a year of use, it was working fine.

I happened to be in the mountains this past Friday, only one of about 10 texts sent with my in reach mini 2 went through and almost none of the texts I know were sent got to me. Clearly affected by the global IT "issue" (a.k.a. cyber attack test.) So it's good for some emergencies (I love mine) but point to point radio comms are still the way to go in an emergency.
