The family is elapidae, which encompasses rinkhals along with true cobras ( _Naja_ spp.) as well as an overwhelming majority of non-viperid (vipers) venomous snakes that are dangerous. Exceptions might include some highly venomous rear fanged colubrids such as the Boomslang ( _Dispholidus typus_ ) and I suppose atractaspidids and stuff.

And you are correct. Elapids, vipers/pit-vipers, and colubrids (rear fanged) are I believe the 3 recognized venomous snake families.

@@chillycereal Yup you can drink it with no effect unless you have a cut on your mouth or ulcers. Your stomach acid and saliva prevent the venom from seeping into the blood stream and mostly neutralize it.

Still though, it's a terrible idea to drink snake venom because you could have a stomach ulcer or an open would along your digestive track, and sometimes that's all it takes.

@martk647 Naja is the Genus for Cobras. This snake has its own Genus and is the only species within that Genus. Hemachatus haemachatus. Keeled, not smooth scales, gives birth to live young. It only has a similarity to spitting Cobras, but not all Cobras spit.

This just reminded me of the time Steve Irwin found a spitting cobra & was doing that thing where he would mess around with wild animals to show us every possible aspect of their personality that he could draw out….and it covered him in venom. He was wearing sunglasses & he said something about being glad he had his “Sunny’s” on. It always cracked me up as a kid when he would do something that just felt so dangerous, but was always so respectful of the animal & the audience….and he’d say something like “Sunny’s” to remind you that he was enjoying every ounce of the life he was given. ❤

@@Elketjeable Well that bites. 🙄🙄 I didn't know a death noodle finally popped him. The video of his own undoing wasn't surprising at all. Did you see that rinky-dink little 18 inch broken tree stick he was using as a tool? OMG!!! I was actually shocked it didn't go for bite #2 on his calf. His love for conservation alone makes him a far, far better human than me and I would like for him to live long enough to accomplish more. However, the two follow-up videos don't indicate that this event has made him less reckless.

@@TheTibetyak He promised he wouldn't freehandle the venomous snakes anymore and that he would be more careful.. He also suffered from ptsd, which is completely understandable.. It's a near death experience.. We'll see what happens.. After the croc bite, he seems to have been more careful around the crocs as well.. So I think he might be, I hope so.. It left a big impression.. It would indeed be a big loss, he was born to do this work with animals and he's good at it.. But the thing is that everyone in dangerous jobs encounters an accident atleast once, it's extremely rare to get away without getting hurt atleast once, working these jobs a lifetime.. So it wasn't surprising it happened, it was just a matter of time and time had come.. Luckily he survived.. He's still on heart meds though.. Hope he can avoid it in the future.. The risks of dangerous jobs can only be lowered with certain precautions, but it's never a zero risk operation ofcourse..

@@Elketjeable He wasn't born to do this, and is actually really bad at it. Even after he got bit by a cobra and a crocodile he ignores protocols real professionals use to keep bad things from happening.
